Tech: D series Rebuild...

Evening everyone. Let me start this off by saying I've never rebuilt an engine by myself. Im also not a great writer or any sort of literate person.
So I got a block finally, basicly for free... as most of you know an unfortunate smelting accident blew 3 holes in my last block, and by fire I'm going to do it again. Especially since I got the block so cheap
Ive started by pulling off the oil pan, and removing the main cap (I think that's what it's called.
) I could tell someone had already been in the motor, because the block is mostly bare, and the cap bolts were almost completly lose... so I didn't bother removing them in the proper torque sequence...

There was no oil screen pickup thinggy... so I didn't have to even mess with that. Now the main cap wouldn't just come right off, I had to call a buddy and ask him about this, cause I was pretty stumped on how to get it out... so I had to tap it with a piece of wood and a hammer
, I didn't have a rubber mallet.

I also have a horrible working environment so I put the maincap in a plastic bag to at least help from getting it and the bearings, which I'll probably replace anyhow, from getting dirty.

Once removed I checked the journals on the bottom side of the crank, everything apears very nice, and there are no nicks at all.

I'll post some pics up once I get to work tomorrow. I'll keep updating this as I go along...

PS. If anyone who has expierence with rebuilding Honda motors has insight, or helpful tips, I'd more then like to hear them.
So post up!!
Till tomorrow.

Let me know if you need any pointers or tools. I've setup a couple of jigs for plastigauging cranks and seperating rods.

welcome to my world.
i finally ordered all the gaskets, pumps, seals, etc. to finish putting this motor together. by my bday i will playing with a newly rebuilt by angela and david d series engine in my hatch. wheee!!! then i can work on that suspension problem
just wait until you have to measure and put the piston rings back on. turning those rings to their proper position is a pain but it is really cool to do. then when you put the pistons back in and connect them, the main cap gets in the freakin way and you usually have to start over cuz a bearing got out of place. david found some trick to stop this but i can't remember what is was.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
