The problem was line pressure. The tranny already had the pressure upped via the custom valvebody and then the tuner was trying to "firm up the shifts" to make drivability better against my wishes. The tuner was ONLY supposed to move the 2-3 shift down a few mph as I was hitting the limiter between that shift. Admittedly it was the first high stall auto car he had worked on and has since probably learned a thing or two and it probably isn't an issue any longer, but it is something to keep in the back of your mind. People are too quick to fix drivability issues with a high stall car by upping the line pressure since the shifts are so soft which is fine, but you can only do it one way or the other, not both at the same time.
