s10 lt1 or ls1 swap

There was never a factory V8 S10 offered. But there are quite a few LT-1 and a couple LS1 swapped S-10's, including at least 1 LT-1 swap in Tampa (seen him just yesterday driving down the road as a matter of fact).
The LS1 is a pretty involved swap because they use different mounts than an SBC and the oil pan is shaped wrong.
The LT1 is an easier swap because the motor mounts are closer to an SBC than an LS1, several sets of headers are made, and the wiring is similar. The only "downside" to the LT1 swap, is that you either need to run corvette accessories ($) or notch the frame rail on the passenger side. Not a huge job, but something to consider.
There are both 6 speed and auto LT1 trucks around, but I would think the auto would be easier since it would be the same style tranny as in an auto S10 from the factory.
For all the info you could ever want on this swap, check out www.s-seriesforum.com or www.s-series.org
BTW, an Astro van is a much easier swap

im building a 98 with an lt1 right now, i notched my frame and use the factory transmission mount and shortened my factory driveshaft 1.5 inches and u have to buy angle plug headers ($300) and i recomend a custom wiring and computer tune from lt1wiringharness.com, also u can use the 40 dollar conversion mounts but you have to cut and weld on them and you can use and ac delete pully and u wont have to notch the frame
Good job, im sure this information will travel back in time 5 years and help the guy...

full on track cars can take a lot more liberties with shit than a street car. bell bottom kits and crazy wheel fitment look cool sliding on a track, but when i want to drive to taco bus, im going to ruin all of that shit. so it just doesnt work for me. function over fashion.
