If your looking to do it cheap you could go carbed on a first gen small block.

I recommend that, lol. That motor might not actually work for towing in the low end, but you could build it for $5500.

Actually an LS1 swap would probably be cheaper as he wouldn't have to change as much and he can get a take out for $3500 or so....

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

GM had a few factory extremes with LS1's as an option. and yes LHT is the place to get it done if you want something like that. id say, if you could, put an LS6 in it and be done with it. as far as auto or stick...id go with auto just because its more consistant. but what about the rear end? is it going to handle all of the new found torque?

Not really, just if you build a motor keep towing in mind when you select a cam.

6 speed install in a truck is a bit of a hastle too as far as shifter location ( especially if it's a standard cab) and clutch pedal mounting if it was a factory auto truck.

it's his money though.
il have to agree even in my elcamino which weights quite alot i have tractionproblems when i get on the gas and get wheel spin through every gear so in a newer s10 probly 1000lbs lighter than my truck i cant imagin the traction problems =P
