Dead Meat Meets/Hillsborough Sonics/Tampa
I remember the meets at StreetHeat on 66 years ago....
I remember the meets where Fly Customs was rolling deep
I remember the old school V-dub meet on 19 at Burger King
I remember the Miami Subs meets that were 100 cars deep
I remember the Sonic on Hills meet, where Club 350z were present regularly
I remember QSL on thursday was a TR event and was pretty tight
You wanna know what happened?
Cars like these would show up and chase out the NSX's, RX7s, 300z's, 350zs.......with all of the trollish commentary and useless burnouts and attract bad business
I have been around for many years in the scene....When the Bradleys opened BLVD Customs...... When Scotties on 19 was the drift spot.. (yes, those of you that say Rey doesn't drift, I've been doing it long before you reached 6th grade.)
I have seen the scene deteriorate and I don't ever see it going back to the days of glory ...

The bottom line is this, things change, people grow up (at least most of us).
Things are different. Before a 15 dollar ticket for spectating was worth the risk. But with the War on street racing, the power to lose our car, go to jail, pay 2500 fines, lose license for 6 months and carry an sr22 - Just for the mere interpretation of the officer THINKS you are street racing, now things are serious.
The "meets" were places where you used to roll from there and do the deed. But not anymore....
That is why I support the Street Heat event at Sunshine. It's legal, you can run your car until it blows up, drink beer, listen to music - all without any risks.
How do you beat that?
THAT is the Ideal meet.

Rey,
I also remember Miami Subs, the 350 Z club, QSL and at one time we met weekly
for dinner at what is now (Dec 2011) the Green Iguana on Dale Mabry.
+1 on Street Heat at Sunshine. It's probably kept a lot of people out of trouble.
As for the 350Z club, (May 2012 update) My Congratulations to.............
350Z club members Tony Fiallo and J.T. Price on
taking the top import cars trophy. Chris Presley drove up from Venice, and
other 350Z club members there were Dimitri Papadopolis, and Gina Papadopolis, former
club President. I had a good time hanging out with you folks. You really know how
to display your cars. Here's the link: https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/l...ml#post9189636
Five 350Z's were not enough this year to win Club Participation. That went to
Hillsborough County's High Rollers Car Club.
As for louvres,
Plenty of Toyota Celicas have louvres stock. I see them at the Toyota meets that I go to.
Louvres are also on Ferrari's and Lamborghinis. I did not realize that opening up hoods
and louvres at a car show drove people away.
I go to a lot of meets. Thanks for posting a picture of my opened louvres.
They keep the sun out of my car and I can see out easier than looking through tint.
When someone can document me doing a burnout at a meet as a fact instead of
hearsay/opinion, please let us all know.-Bob
Some pics of my car 06-01-2012, 04:50 PM thanks to 96whiteknight
A whole set, dedicated to just Bob.
scraped paint and wrench-marked bolts, it grabs the detail of an embattled road racer.
Take it as a compliment buddy,.......It's a great picture! -Bob

Bob is on the computer like once a week. When he does get on, he goes to his UserCP and sees all the threads he's subscribed to, and responds to them all. Hence why he seems to grave dig threads that are 2-3 weeks old.

the streetheat meet was actually spawned because of the downfall of the miami subs and then the van dyk abandoned theater shows, and the increasingly crappier people going to the bearss meet...ken was nice enough to open his shop area, and had a small area to park so it was just 20-30 TR folk and no one else came around. even that got old...in a way, we almost missed seeing the idiots, so many of us started meeting at the bearss meet, but far back in the lot by ourselves and watched the retards out front do stupid stuff.
basically the older guys/classic cars moved their show and the domestics went with them. then the more elite imports (read: faster/nicer) followed and those of us who were civil. that would be good for a few weeks and then the ricers found us and ruined it within a month. is what it is.
