you can do it on the WRX's aswell..its pretty expensive.. not cheap like I have discovered for the Cobra.. WRX requires new center diff.. new front and rear diff aswell.. have to keep it all the same..
some diff versions of the Sti / WRX came with diff ratios .. so swaps are pretty common... sometimes might even require tranny swap aswell.. depends on what your doing.

Well on a first gen RX7 its easy as hell to change out the pinion/gear set..
First start off with a LSD which is not hard to find..Then decide what gears you want...

yeah most gear swaps for imports are rare for getting gear sets. mostly people use different rear ends from different models or years of their cars to get what they want.

pull the tranny, open the case, remove the gear clusters....
and it will cost about 800+ for a GOOD LSD.
but its fun to talk to my buddy with his 4x4 ram, and tell him my diff is a 4.2, he only has like a 4.11 or something. then again, he doesn't have a 9k redline.

One of the biggest expenses on my upgrade list is getting a new ring and pinion since the current one is pretty tall. Changing it out is a bitch since my car has a transaxle and the new ring and pinion are going to set me back over $1K.
As FordMan already mentioned it will do wonders for my acceleration.
Right now my final ratio is about 2.5 but I'm planning on changing to 3.2
