Default Domestic guy w/ a import question about gearing

Do imports have the option of changing the final gear drive ratio like domestics do(3.73, 4.10, etc.)? Don't know too much about fwd car and trannys. Or even for a rwd import for that matter. -Mark

Yes they do. It's just a differential.

Also in the 240's and N/A 300z's the rear ratio is already a fairly high 4.08 or somewhere around there.

I know you can do a final drive swap in the Focus, but it requires the dissassembly of the entire transmission. It isn't simple like a rear gear swap.

It's easier to find a close ratio tranny....for vw's. I find 3.94 tranny's all the time and they only cost 50.00....but they are a PITA to put in

For B-series honda trannies there are a couple of upgrades available, upping the FD from 4.26 or 4.40 to 4.785 or 4.929.....you dont have to change out the gears or diff, but its pricey, somewhere in the range of 450-900 dollars depending on which ratio you choose.
