umm...The tides...

Gandy was set up to be a pretty much imports on the south, domestics on the north.

We all had fishing poles.

Gandy wasn't what it is now literally.

Pier 60 was the show off spot in Pinellas.

78th, Meridian, Hoover, Bread Factory, etc etc etc were where the import folks hanged. CCC, GIS, the slab, and the tides seemed to be the domestic areas of choice.

TR wasn't around..it was still TAPCA, then formed into this and badrap and 3rdshift.

There are very fond memories of days gone by. Bonfires on gandy beach with umpteen back halved cars, and everyone just bullshitting.

Seems like these days people feed of off other peoples stupidity. Back then it was somewhat frowned upon and it didnt lead to more people doing more of the same idiotic things.

John... so funny. Still have a Spec R magnet on my fridge. I will have to take a pic for you. Dont ask why I still have it after all these years, moving, new fridge etc..

Dont forget DP Tuning!

Duane is still around somewhere, I see him in the Land O Lakes area every now and then.

ha ha i still have a couple too

I still see and talk to Dewain every couple of months, he lives up off of Collier Pkwy. Had a pretty nasty motorcycle spill not too long ago and was dinged up pretty good, but I hear he's on the way to recovery.

I'm old enough to remember when people referred to performance imports, they were talking about modified VW beetles. I was a high school kid in the early 90's. I shot this video for a school project.
YouTube - 1993 International New Car Show (old video)

I didn't shoot too many Japanese imports, but still cool to see these cars as new.

Thanks Edmel. You know, I was thinking about it, and I do remember that when I was in junior high and high school that import mini trucks were the big thing. But I can honestly say I thought they were lame. I was more into Camaros and Mustangs. Funny:

Holy hell that video! LMFAO, I love alot of those mini trucks, but not modded like that lol

Reminds me of Class Act with kid and play, he drove a red mini with a wide body kit and hydrolics, lol

Edit: I've seen my share of those trucks with rotarys back in the day, sooo awesome!

Lets see. What I remember from the mid to late 90's were.

Rotary swaps. Nissan, Datsuns, Toyotas with 13b Rotaries in them.

FIrst gen RX-7's with Lexus front ends.

Back in my dads day. He had several Pontiac grand prixs. He had a few A body and G body platforms with the 305 I think. I think one had a 350. He had gray one he told me about before the gas crunch of the 70's that had a 405 or something put in. It was a gas guzzler. Had lots of power. Got rid of it because of gas back then. I think he traded it for a Monza. Last car I remember him having before he switched over to econo cars was his 82-84 Pontiac Grand prix. When we moved to florida it got broken into several times. He ended up getting rid of it. He told me lots of stories about the gray one. Wish I Could remember them all. lol but he did say it had a lot of POWA !!!!!!!! OVER 9000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: IN the late 90's early 00's All I remember were

1. bagged down trucks. Everyone was huge into the Nissan TRucks. Removing all the lettering and just keeping " SS " or "SSA ". Having the truck bed move in all sorts of directions. Clear tails that ended being illegal.

2. Huge systems in the back. People playing bass music to see which was louder.

3. Cherry bombs on cars.

4. Fart can mufflers that are now so fucking annoying.

5. One wiper blade to make your shit look cool. (Now it looks stupid)

6. Chevy trucks dropped with some chrome wheels. Also looked like they put some corvette lights in the back. A truck bed trunk with a Spoiler on the back.

7. Lights under the car.

8. Hoods with lights on them where the fluid comes out of for the windshield.

9. Cars with graphics on them. I thought it was cool. Now it looks like shit.

I know there were a shit load of other stuff but I can't remember right now.

Anyone remember Brandon Motor Sports ?

I got into drag racing in 99 after selling my 2nd lowrider.I remember going to Miami Subs,Gandy,Meridian,Seabreeze and 78th.Slim shady with his B series nitrous car and the nights that anything above 400hp was king shit for the night.A N20 Ls1 would wreck shit until his bottle ran out.My most memorable streetrace was Slim vs a blown and nitrous Viper@78th.Good times and its cool to see old school racers move on to bigger and better things.
