Default I Went To The Danger Zone . . . (RPM Wise)

After all my track excitement and issues this weekend I almost forgot to mention I had a near tragedy the day before I went to the track on my way home from work.

A really nice blacked out s-line audi pops out of nowhere on me, flexed and took off from me while I was cruising across one of our long bridges in top gear doing somewhere in the 80s.

I meant to do a direct 6-4 downshift and for the first time in decades I FUBARd a downshift and went into second instead.

I was in a rush but thank god I quickly reversed my clutch foot direction when I started feeling a bit too much increase in revs and stopped the clutch engagement before it was solid.

While the audi took off down the road I let her drop to idle while checking vaccuum numbers and then checking boost reaction and listening carefully to make sure I didn't do anything dreadful like tweak the valves.

By the time I got home I was curious how bad I screwed up and remembered that my ScanGauge records all kinds of peak values for recall so I decided to see just how badly I screwed the pooch.

Not good, but it sure could have been worse. By my calculations I think the revs would have gotten over 8K if I hadn't caught it in time.

Thats childs play RPM. I consider 8000RPM shifts granny shifting lol.

LOL at you honda guys, not all of us have cars powered by oversized motorcycle engines, lol.

Some of us have beefy little slow spinning motors that can stand up to 20+ lbs of boost all day long and start making full boost around 2500 RPMs, lol.

She might have been fine for up close to 8K, but if I had gone higher I could have easily bent a few valves.

Jeeze one of my RX-7's would shift in 8000 RPM all the time and was basically stock. 7300 would be me granny shifting it. Anything under 5k would be double granny shifting. haha
