Huh? Are you referring to peak power or at redline the power is close to peak? A lot of cars make peak earlier than redline but the added r.p.m is there for gearing so that you end up in the meat of the powerband after the next gear change.

Theres a difference between redline and fuel limiter, Its obviously a good idea to rev past redline if you have a disadvantageous powerband. Almost every car does that, I'm just being an ass about definitions and misuse.

Default Incident On The Bayside Bridge

S60R,
I wondered what that thing was that passed me.

First the wind vortex of you drafting the Audi pushed my little Honda over against the rail, then the vacuum of you passing, sucked me back across two lanes to the other side of the bridge.

The good news for you is that the FHP car that was in a lights-out persuit got kind of busy with all those cars behind me who saw what happened to me, slammed on their brakes to avoid me and started bouncing off each other in front of him like balls on a pool table.....

When I got off the bridge and headed West on Gulf-to-Bay, my arms and hands were trembling on the steering wheel to the point that I was wobbling side to side in my lane. I had my head out the window breathing to avoid hyper-ventilation.

As I turned North on US 19 I heard the sirens behind me heading over
towards the bridge, but didn't have time to investigate further since I was on my way to an extended dinner with a chick who, before I left her place, had made me so limber that I could hardly steer the car and had to use both feet to press in the clutch.

S60R, Fooey on the Audi. There is no doubt in MY mind that you are definitely the "Top Gun".-Bob

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take that wall with you.

eh I dunno about all that. most engines stop making power 500-1000rshared_pm before "redline" i.e. mfg specified rev limiter...you have to go that extra rshared_pm to put you in a decent range in the next gear to utilize the most amount of power under the curve that you can. Redline is a more of "Hey, we know more about this motor than you do, so shift here and this is pretty much as fast as the car will accelerate."
