Yeah, if he isn't willing to put it in his name then YOU shouldn't be willing to let someone else drive it while YOU are liable. I would try to work it out with him first, but if not the Cops should probably be involved. You may want to contact the Cops and have them run a check to make sure it isn't wanted?? Of course let them know why you are running the check first.
