I highly call that a fail being that there are other companies who failed harder and actually injured many lives and killed many too..

IDK, a gas pedal getting stuck can cause for one sticky situation.

This new recall is to correct a situation in which the gas pedal could stick without the presence of a floor mat.

The situation is rare, according to Toyota, but can occur when accelerator pedal mechanisms become worn. The problem will usually develop gradually, Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons said. The pedal may become harder to press and may become slower to return when released. In the worst cases, it may become stuck in a partially depressed position.

A Toyota spokesman said there are no confirmed deaths traceable to the defect.

There had to have been a lot of accidents and maybe some law suits which led to this IMO

Not sure why this is a recall, this happened in both my Mustangs, and both my Subaru's. The mat holding mechanism breaks, repeatedly getting into and out of the car pushes the mat over, the mat gets under and around the gas pedal.

Happened to both my 95 honda civics and my 98 honda passport/isuzu rodeo. Mat slides everywhere. Several times while driving I had to move the mat because it was covering part of the pedal. It would also get behind which would not allow me to press the gas pedal.

^ yea Ive had that happen to... on many of my cars.. floor mats get in the way of the gas or brake pedal. But never have i hit someone because of it...

Worse thing I can say has happened to me was a runaway mnt dew bottle got lodged under the brake pedal and the floor so I couldnt push the pedal down... Scary... But there is a E brake... slowly pull it to stop... then removed the bottle and launched it out the window..

This has happend to me before with a water bottle. I got a little scared but got myself to calm down, remove water bottle and avoid an accidents. One thing I love about my cougar is that the Mats have locks on them. Will not move for nothing.
