Its a recall because Totoya decided it was cheaper to recall and fix the problem than to pay people when it happened to them and they sued them. Thats how automotive recalls work.

This recall is separate from the floor mat recall...here the gas pedal does not come back to it's original position and has nothing to do with the floormat.

More movies than just Fight Club have alluded to that fateful time when the car manufacturer, I'm pretty sure it was GM(but not all the way sure) got caught not doing a recall because compensating families of dead owners would be cheaper. Because its so hilarious and sadly true; yet nobody seems to care.

There actually is an internal Ford memo where the costs of lawsuits vs the recall costs are weighed concerning exploding Pinto gas tanks floating around the internets.

The study concludes it would be cheaper to lose the lawsuits, voila no recall.

Guys i work at toyota and sorry to inform you guys but the reason for the recall was from the american made toyotas. the pedal assembly was sold to toyota by some american phone company and assembled here(americans are slackin). all japanese shipped toyotas are flawless work in great conditions and no problems. so i wouldn't dought GM or these other franchise end up having familiar problems(car problems).

It's a recall and a really big one and it's not just a floor mat recall (the floor mat thing was just a bluff).

People here are extreme hypocrites. Had this been one of the big three everyone would be talking shit. But when toyota issues a recall there are all kinds of excuses. One of the reasons the japanese manufactures got to where they are at by not honoring warranty claims and issuing TSB's instead of recalls. I realize some american manufactures practiced this in the past but they are realizing that their reputation is worth more in the long run.

For example all early 07 350z's have a leaky clutch slave cylinder problem. Instead of nissan recalling all early 07 cars they just decided to issue a TSB and fix some of the very late remaining models.

Same with the airbag issue on my 07 Fit ...Recall ? No. TSB, yes. TSB means you just fix the cars that the owners are staying ontop of or the ones that have these issues as they come in - purposely denying a full recall due to cost reasons.

The japanese oem's have just been plain slacking lately.
