Default ***1st & 2nd gen Mazda Miata MX5's***

Hi,

I just wanted to get some input and feedback, opinions, suggestions, etc, etc.

I my self owned a 91 miata. And here is my input.

I think the miata is a great car all around, only let down is the lack of cargo space, I am 5'10" and i fet fine in a miata, nice and comfy. But the lack of cargo space was the biggest let down, but thats a price you pay for a small roadster.

The miata's 1.6L twin cam, 120hp @ the crank and 100 hp @ the rear wheel, with a 5spd short gear tranny, and a short shifter, and a all wheel independent suspension system all wheel disc brakes, made it a fun car to take around tight turns, and fast corners. The car lacks in the top speed department, but was easliy made up for with its fast acceleration!

But it doesnt end there, some miatas have a nice 1.8, with a few upgrades, and you cant leave out the mazdaspeed miata. A nice boosted rwd sports car, with a 6 spd and up graded suspension and brake system.

I have always wanted to get back into the whole miata thing. For those who think its a girl car, go take a look at circuit racing with miatas, or swapped miatas with LSx engines, or the famous 13b rotary from its cousin car, the RX7.

What do you guys think of these underrated, reliable, quick, fun, cheap sports cars.

P.S. The miatas cast iron block makes it perfect for high hp and trq, also there engines react very well to high amounts of boost, thanks to the strong cast iron block.

i like them, a true sports car. But i do make fun of andy all the time about his "gay mans" car lol. I'd take a miata over ANY honda any day, other then maybe the NSX....but for the price of a used one you cant beat it for auto X!

Honestly, I like the 1st gen Miata a lot, the one with the pop-up headlights.

the mazdaspeed was retarded. Overly priced for getting jack shit for upgrades that you could do yourself for way less.

The first gen is just stupid to buy, smaller weak ass engine compared to the 1.8 which is still pathetic, but its not like theres much of a price difference between the two, and the 1.8 has way better aftermarket support.

lsX swap is kinda dumb in them, granted you don't NEED powersteering especially considering theres not even 1,500lbs sitting on the front wheels, its just just better to have it with a powersteering rack, unless you want to waste the money and get a reg one. 5.0 is the way to go, and has a huge aftermarket support, monster miatas and what not.

I always wanted a 2nd gen. Also, are you serious about being disappointed with the cargo room, would you buy a porsche 911 expecting to get a fullsize suitcase in it?

i always loved thien but im a mazda ford guy anyway .. as for the ms it is cool its the same motor they put it the 323 gtx and yes there is support for it !! but you can get a turbo kit for one for cheap instead. the only problem i got with them is the first gen plastic rear window turns yellow and not cheap to fix other then that i want one to work onbut don't have the space to store it

I have a second gen, with an LS-1 and it is by far and away the most fun car I have ever owned. I've had several 400+ hp 240's and they are no where near as fun. Why would you put a shitty low hp, iron 5.0 in when you can have the ls-1? That's retarded.

I giggled a little when I read this. Having ridden in miatas some and driving a few myself, I can confirm that the acceleration is nothing to write home about. I do love Miatas and agree that they are true sports cars though. A little upgrades here and there, and you have a decent budget race car that you can autox, scca, nasa etc... I would totally get one and throw in an 13BT, LSX, 2JZ, 5.0, SR20 and call it a day. Bout the most bang for the buck fun you can have.
