Actually more tires aren't always better on a road course for a first timer.

The thing with light wheels is that strength is typically sacrificed for weight. That's not so bad on a tracker but on the street with all the potholes, speed bumps and irregularities makes the wheel more susceptible to cracking.

Unless your are competing I'd go for durability over performance.

For the record I've cracked two wheels.
true, but i cant see any of these wheels being less durable then my sportmax 006s lol....it was 800 for the set. And i figure if iam going to spend the money on new wheels i might as well get top quality.

and not to sound like an asshole but how can more tires not be a good thing?

If you have massive tires with awesome grip as you start learning you will develop alot of bad habits. You should learn on moderate tires so you get a feel for what the car is doing, instead of just having the tires do all the work for you.

still not exactly a lightweight car, and 305s on a mustang on street tires is alot different then R-comps, plus street tires won't hide the mistakes like the r-comps will

IMO that rule is really R-comp specific. I had some really, really crappy tires on my car when I got it and it only took me a handful of events before I felt like the tires were seriously holding me back at every point on course. They were unpredictable, uncontrollable, rolled over on the sidewall even at high pressures, and I had them howling on the edge of traction through what seemed like half the course, feeling slow and impatient and wishing I could push harder. I've got some Dunlop Z1 Star Specs on there now and even though the grip level is tremendously higher, I feel like they'll be way easier to learn on than the crap I had before. They're way more predictable, with much better steering feel that lets you know when they're on the edge of grip, and break away more predictably. The first time I had them out on my street testing course I was able to confidently push them closer to the edge than I ever could on the old tires, even though I was going a lot faster.

Just my take, but I say get the best street tires you can afford. They're still street tires- I can already tell you that they won't cover up bad driving from personal experience .

I would look into upgrading your brakes first if your going to do some track days at sebring. IIRC your brakes are the same as the stock GT mustang? I see those having trouble stopping so much weight, even if you were to get lighter wheels its alot more than the stock GT wheels.
