DSM VS HONDA thread!!!
i have always liked them both, but i prefer the way a honda drives. I have had 4 fast-ish hondas (2 crxs/2civics) and a dsm(1992 laser awd) that was stock. I had big plans for the DSM, but it went for a swim in Naraganset Bay 2 days after i ordered my parts . I have never owned a bad honda or dsm. But i don't buy shitty cars either. Cost wise? my white hf/b18c5 was built for 7k and was pretty fast. my dsm plans would have put me in the high 11's/low 12's for about the same cost. I never ran the crx because the closest track to me was in NJ. But, i would say is was a solid mid 12 sec car(my vx with same motor went 13.0). I have had many types of performance cars from turbo rotaries to LS1s and i always come back to honda?
a lot of good points have been made, and i can tell you no car manufacturer wants to make an unreliable car, its just the way things boil down when you have a car with more power.
look at it this way, most peeps here buy used, so lets say your next project civic comes from grandpa down the street who never goes above 60mph and puts less than 5k miles a year on his car, you have yourself a near-mint well kept little car that has lots of potential
now lets say your next project car is an AWD turbo talon, owned by the mid-20's guy from downtown who wants to upgrade. now you have a car with 15,000 miles a year, only minimally kept up with, and dogged out most of the time. its going to have reliability issues. even if the DSM was 10x more reliable when driven the same way, the fact is that most of them are treated as cheap sports cars, and so they break like cheap sports cars.
and That is why i like hondas, it is easier to get used parts from cars that havnt been dogged, beaten on, or "built" by ametuer idiots.
but Mucho respect for the DSM builders, who are willing to take the challenge of keeping up with a car that is harder to maintain most of the time.

wel i think sprite fixed that with there lemon lime drink...
now only if honda and dsm worked together...
an awd vtec poppen 4 banger on 12psi pushing a car like an eg hatch would be sick, would it not?
end of story! both have there up's and downs
i admit to driving a honda becuase for me its easy to work on! my experience is so limited, so thats why im repping the sohc 4 banger civic! lol
when i get more money and a larger budget and more experience i'll have a k series ek for a daily and a bad ass fully built v8 or subby, something along those super cars!

rep to you for having a well maintained dsm thats still fast
but rep takin away for trying to run honda's through the dirt
any real car enthuseist can apreaciate any car and its potenial for what it was made for, via it be for power, or comfort, or looks.
Now your whole statement on 400-500 for cams, that might be trough depending on the engine, but no mater the cost i give just as much respect to this
A: guy like you taking a factory stock fast car, and keeping it up to date and moding it
B: guys that take cars that were ment to be to save gas, like a sohc, and making it run 11's
sorry but both deserve repsepct and apreciation. and anyone can buy a fast car stock.

yea evo's arent dsm's at all, but they do have similar drivetrains, engines, turbos, etc etc
and arent the early evo's closly related to dsm's, like the mirages and evo 3's
