Porsche accuses Nissan GT-R of cheating the 'Ring
I think the GTR is a pretty nice car, and quick.... but some of the times they are posting a bit unrealistic. I'm going to agree with Eric, at the minimum, there GTR record holder had some stickier tires.
I'm going to bet Porchse is correct on calling bs to the 7.29 claim. I doubt it would go 25 seconds slower but that aside it isn't that far fetched.
I started wondering when this would happen when I watched the synced laps of the zr1 and the gtr. There is no fucking way that the gtr is going to hang in the straight with that vette. Yet watching the video they were nearly identical. Considering the weight and power advantage along with the stance and aero of the vette that just doesn't make sense.
I'm curious to know what Nissan has to say about this if anything. This is definately a big league call out by the germans and doubt it would come without testing. Hence why it took awhile.

I think you have that backwards. The ZR1 is designed to be the fastest vette while also being comfortable for the street. Thats why it has full leather interior and the best ride quality of any C6 Its no where near being an all out race car.
What do you think ACR means? American Club Racer... Its a no frills stripped out viper with full aero and coil-overs stock with PSC as the factory tire. You need to do some more research. the ACR is designed for nothing but the track. Hell the front splitter it comes with isnt street legal and it dosnt come with a radio or airconditoning unless you check the option box for it!
So yea the ACR beat the ZR1, its lighter, has better aerodynamics for racing, larger wheels stickier tires, similar brakes and only 20 less hp. I wonder why it beat the ZR1.

Splitters are absolutely street legal. The car couldn't leave Detroit if they weren't.
All ACRs come with air conditioning. The cost of re-certifying the Viper engine makes removing the AC cost prohibitive.
Only the ACR Hardcore version doesn't have a radio. The standard ACR comes with radio, speakers, hood pad, trunk carpet and a couple other useless things.
The ACR Hardcore is entirely street legal and weighs in at about 3,365lbs. The ZR1 weighs in at 3,350lbs.
As for "no frills" all Vipers are no frills.

four-inch-deep removable center for the front splitter (so the car passes standard bumper offset laws and doesn't headbutt every bump in the road) fitted to improve front-end downforce by a third. - MotorTrend.com
The hard core is the one I was talking about, sorry I didnt specify, even the 'standard' ACR is a pretty much track only car targeted at people who want a track car they can drive home.
I will admit I was wrong on the A/C weight, but I never said how much the difference was, and 15lbs could be the difference between two drivers. I was in the mindset in my previous post that the cars were of similar weight but I thought the viper was the slightly lighter of the two.

hmm should be interesting. I always thought that the GTR's times at first were BS . I just dont mean the ring either. I also noticed the 11.3 @122 mph turn into 12.2 at 114 in the last 3/4 tests i have glanced upon. I have a sneaking suspicion that the GTR that nissan has been parading to the press/running tracks on, is not your off the showroom floor gtr. I am also sure that i am not the only one who feels this way. Cudos to Porsche for trying to get to the bottom of this, and if it is true........wow!
That was the part I was talking about it, which is removable and its not street legal.

I would absolutely LOVE to have the viper for sure. If I had to choose one though I'd probably choose the zr1/z06 over the acr/srt10 just because of the few extra ammenities it has and the fact that it wouldn't be a full time track car for me. I would want the Navi and stuff like that just to have the luxury and performance all in one. For a track/weekend car the viper for sure though. ANYWAY back on topic....Porsche owns Nissan
If you read any track tests on the ACR Dodge sends out its engineers to every one to set the car up for best performance. Seriously its one of the closest things you can buy from the factory floor that is a race car besides a GT3 Cup (which isnt street legal).
And I see where your coming from Chuck and I agree on the sports car part, thats why I love the RS version of the GT3 and the Scuda 430 and the ACR all are top choices in my book. My car is also pretty hard edged when it comes to street driving. Its no ACR viper in terms of power/speed but its not your average import anymore either. I've never been in a viper before but I cant see it being much worse than my car for a daily in terms of harsh ride and everything else magazines critique. Just more fun to drive.
