lol youre so far from the truth about him... and why not a 26000lbs camaro with 300hp???? You'd have awesome power/weight and make awesome city mileage?

I was suprised too. I was expecting more like 19-20, but got 24 all the way there...I had a lid, headers, duals, and a tune so maybe that helped.....BTW a 300hp 2600lbs camaro would be nice, but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with a 3500-3800lb camaro with 500+. Some1 that is so brand loyal or biased towards a certain "sort" of car doesn't seem like much of a car guy to me. I have no problem giving respect to a car when respect is do no matter what make/model it is.....

But there is... If you want to split hairs, there are added benefits of less stress and friction or WEAR on lighter cars, there is improved fuel economy, there is actually a hint of EFFICIENCY. Etc. etc. I just cant see why they cant make lighter cars, the motors are already super efficient if you think about it, with all the crazy fuel injection technology nowadays, the only thing holding these cars back is BULK. Look at the Lotus Elise although it is too small and impractical for DD, the formula is genius. It has a 1.8L and has similar performance to cars with more than twice its power. Why not build a bigger-than-elise car for normal sized people but keep its weight down, put an adequately powered motor in it, and voila! You have an instant hit. Not to mention less material would be used, then production costs go down, etc. etc. Do I really have to explain it?

Anyways, I dont want to get involved in such a debate, I dont have enough time in the day to sit and reply to everything. I'm just saying, LOWER the weight and it would HELP, not SOLVE the problem.

Obviously a light car would be good. I don't understand why they wouldn't make it lighter either really....The vette isn't heavy at all at something like 3200lbs or w/e. I really hate how big all the new cars are getting, especially the new dodge SRT-8 series. 20 inch wheels should NOT be on any sort of "muscle" car.

yea, I'm not sure what they were thinking. The cars are fast as it is, but they would be so much better with a manual and less weight. I don't expect the new camaro to be even close to as heavy and they'll still have the 6spd!

The new challenger is on the same frame as the 300c and to comply with the side impact standard they had to add extra support...

Look up the Lotus Eagle that is on its way out, or the Europe only Lotus Europa. Often times cars that light cost more because of the exotic materials they use.

Doesn't really work like that. A lot of the extra bulk in these cars comes from safety features required to meet strict federal crash regulations. Heavy side-impact door beams, bulky front/rear bumpers, heavier safety glass and a bunch of airbags just to name a few things.

The use of lighter materials like Alluminium, Titanium and Carbon would solve the issue, but drive prices into the sky because those materials are more expensive (and not as easy to get in massive quantities) than steel.

Manufacturers know they can't do much about weight savings, so they're focusing more on developing better engine/fuel technology.
