no actually it wasn't always that way. I'm pretty sure back in the 1st gen days the SS was basic and the z28 was the top dog

well duh. GM has a stable full of cars very few people want... not many people want a 400+HP V8 when Gas is expected to hit $5 a gallon before it will be released. Sure there are a few people, but not enough to make it worth while. GM is hurting for sales right now and another 15 MPG V8 is not what the public wants in this climate.

^ Unless they've posted the specs I'd reasonably guess it would be higher then 15. The LS1 got 18/25. This one should get about the same, hopefully a little more, maybe 20/28.

Yeah, I'm sure the Z28 was killed because of gas prices. Nevermind the fact that for $4.50 you can either buy a gallon of premium gas or a share of GM stock

GM is going in the shitter and quickly (not to mention thankfully).

They have way too many brands and models to keep up with as it is, Why add more overhead with another over-weight fuel-chugging relic?

1st gen z28 where built so they could use that car for trans am racing. a 302 than would rev to 7000 rpm's. rated @ 290hp but they say they where 340-350hp and dual carbs where close to 400hp. but with the dual carb's you could bog off the line dumping the clutch @4000r's

the ss came with a 350 or the 396 bb rated @ 350hp. don't know what it really made but i would guess more than 350hp.

i'd take the ss 396 over the z28 302 anyday.
