Reinstating 55mph?
huh?
a mile per hour is exactly that, a mile per hour. at 55mph, you travel 55 miles in an hour.
if your going 80mph, in an hour you would be 25 minutes ahead of a person going 55, after 2 hours you would be 50 minutes, after 3 you would be 75.
when i was a kid, it would take us about 14 hours to get to Macon, GA going 55mph. a few years ago, i made the trip to Boone, NC in 12 going 80mph.

I think things are fine the way they are, and people should be able to choose how fast they want to drive. If they want to save gas they are doing it in the wrong places, since almost all cars get better highway gas mileage than city, why not synchronize lights in the city better? This is only a idea to increase revenue through tickets, dont let the government fool (or lie to) you.

Speeding isn't what's wasting gas, it's the huge, unnecessarily large vehicles on the road.
Jesus every time I go down south I look around and it's huge ass F250s with nothing in the bed at all or an expedition with one small lady with no kids in the back.
Really is no point to having most of these pieces of gas sucking shit on the road.

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

Wrong. Anyone can make a Corolla get 15 MPG, and too many people do. In Europe, part of the drivers license tests is understanding the relationship between speed, acceleration, and MPG. Lots of people out there just mash gas all over town, rev to 4500+ in daily driving, and bury the pedal every time they want to pass. Bringing the speed limit down to 55 would do a lot for fuel consumption, but significantly increasing the price and standards of a drivers license would do a lot for fuel consumption, road rage, accidents, traffic, and more.
The original 55mph was creat during the energy crisis and since gas is gettin close to 4$ a gallon its safe to say we are reaching that point again. Its also a lot safer and it has become normal to drive 80 on the interstate and it will just be an inconvience for a while till ya get used to it again.
it contradicted everything you just said....
Lower speed limits will lead to higher gas prices. America's not the only nation on Earth. If we start conserving, there will be more oil available to the rest of the world. Many other nations have higher rates of GDP growth than the U.S., and would be happy to have a more abundant supply of petroleum at a lower price. Their rate of fuel consumption will grow faster than ours, and in turn would cause our gas prices to rise even faster in the long term. Punch your congressman in the jimmy if he wants to lower speed limits.

That's right, bitches, TWO quotes!

Nobody is interested in that, just driving around town you can tell how truly stupid and ignorant people are. People bitch about gas prices but they have no understanding of how driving habits affect fuel consumption and how they have plenty of opportunities to get more from their tank.

Now there's some logic!
