Well its not directly vehicle related..At my high school I was on the sailing team and someone had donated an old catamaran that I had never seen before..and the trailer was rusted out right where the tongue attached to the rest of the trailer frame. I mean it was REALLY rusted, and we wanted to tow the thing to the sailing squadron. So I got the bright idea to take a 12 ft steel pole, and shove it into the tongue..flex it up, and over the axle of the trailer to put tension on it. And then used a ratchet strap to crank it tighter till the trailer was rigid LOL. I have done too many ghetto fixes on my crx.

One good one was when the front crossmember (the one with the steering rack on it) tore at the right lca pivot..we welded it up with a shitty chicago electric welder running off a generator because it was too far away from a power source to get enough current. It broke like 2 months later, and we dragged it, busted axle, crossmember and all..back to the house
. Oh shit, I have pics of that!

After it broke this time I went and got a crossmember from a 4dr, but the only one I could find had power steering. So I had to use the rack too. And I drove it around unhooked for like 6 months..and even sold the car with it in there!

(only one that wasnt deleted)

Ive done this for a few people that have broke down with turbo dsms. When they rip a intercooler pipe or their sidemount falls and gets run over by them i reroute the maf straight to the throttle body. Its bad for the turbo but at least they dont have to pay for a tow.All of them have been 2g dsms which thier stock turbo's are junk anyway.

Oooo, just thought of another one.

Few years ago, the daily was having some overheating issues. I couldn't find a cooler thermostat, so I just removed it all together. Cars been in open loop mode ever since.

It can be. And your car may run richer, and get less MPG.

would the coolant temp differ at all? obviously it would heat up quicker WITH a thermostat, but would it get hotter because coolant is being blocked longer, or would it stay cooler, because coolant is trapped in the radiator longer?

Thermostats are intended to keep an engine warm, not cool. Its necessary for coolant to get a little higher so the engine can reach proper operating temp. for economy, you want the higher. It really makes a difference during the summer though, when you have no thermostat. I prefer to have coolant flowing all the time, and sacrificing the extra mpg, to run a little richer.

if you have dsmlink you can compensate for the cooler temperatures. what does your temp go to?

on a day like today, which was somewhat warm, or like the warmest day we've had this year so far, sitting in traffic for 20 mins or so, it never got above this point. it gets up to right between the squiggly line and the bottom of the little flag thing.

But, headgasket was just replaced, water pump was replaced, and i have absolutely no coolant leaks. so i think my cooling system is in good shape. but lately ive been wondering if i should have the thermostat in or not.
