I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

being a mechanic who often worked very late hours, I have tons of ghetto fix stories. Hockey pucks for engine mounts, zip ties in place of bolts, and on and on...
but the best was when I was 4 years old. My dad had a Honda scooter (new at the time). Well, the bolt that held the exhaust up rattled loose and we could not find a replacement. I suggested jamming a screw driver in, which worked for awhile but fell off after an hour. So I offered my shoe lace, which he wrapped through the bolt hole as many times as he could. We had a good 1.5 hour ride home, which it made it almost all the way before burning through. I thought that was pretty cool I was fixing stuff at such a young age

Upper control arm bolt on my 88 Supra broke when I was 16. I was working at the junk yard and the closest thing I could find to match was a steering rack rod off of a Del Sol... I chopped it off, welded a nut on the end to act as a stop, and slapped it on the car. I believe it's still driving to this day with that effin thing
I wish I would have taken pictures of it... it was super ghetto
