Street Legal ATV?
There was a guy on TR many years ago named Tony. He was in the air force and was stationed in North Dakota or Wyoming or something like that. Up there, because of the rural nature and lots of farming, they were very lax on what they would let become street legal. Because of this, you could put a tag on just about anything (like a dirtbike, atv etc). And the law is setup so that once a vehicle is recognized as street legal in one state, by law, a tag can be applied to it in any state. So it is possible to do, but its not just throwing an LED tail light on it and wheelie-ing down to the DMV for your tag.
I don't know if that is necessarily true. If a state has one law and another state has a law prohibitting it the state you are ins law goes. For example NY you must be at least 16 to get a drivers permit I know for a fact if you had a drivers permit and were only 15 and drove in NY you would get in some serious trouble. Same situations apply for the tags. Just cause it has a tag from one state doesnt mean its legal in another...but you are correct in stating you cannot just through some lights on an ATV in florida and expect a tag.
in europe u see quads on the street everywhere. i thought was kinda gay not being able to drive one on the street here.
I know it's not the same. But it could have to do with how the title is written. I've read that people have converted 2 stroke ktm's for street use due to the fact that the title says "motorcycle" instead of "off road vehicle" and also make no metion of engine type.

Little late, but there is a 600 suzuki quad up here, full busa motor, trans and swingarm mated to the stock 600 rear axle. Its got a tag all lights and is insured as a motorcycle... It doesnt see the road very often, but its street legal.
No if you could rear my friend. Its a quad frame, busa swing arm, and quad rear axle... Its basically a busa on a 4 wheeler frame...
