It's a done deal, I'm going out to Daytona to have a bead seat poured and pedals adjusted next week, I'll be racing it at Winterfest in January. It's a sub-2:00 car at Sebring, I just need to make myself a sub-2:00 driver.

I'm having a new engine put in the Radical in January and then it will be up for sale; this time I'm using authentic Powertec parts, i.e. $$$, so whomever buys it should get a car as reliable as when I first bought the car when it went for 27 running hours with no issues other than my bending a shift fork from not getting the clutch in quick enough during a spin. I tried to go the cheap route with the first rebuild which resulted in a cam chain failure 8 hours later, then tried to go the cheap route again with a non-Powertec engine when I was pressed for time and that blew up on me this past weekend, so the car will be done right this time if anyone is interested; it's a 2:09 car when driven well, I did a 2:19 in it last weekend on the bad motor.

Which engine was in your radical?

I know some of them come with either a 2.6 or 2.8 V8.
I dont think most people know that those engines are two hyabusa motors joined. (I want one of them for my car)

Mine is an SR3 with the 1500cc engine; it's a stock 'busa block with a stroker crank, new heads, valves, cams and gearing so it's a big departure from the stock 'busa motor. The rebuild interval is 30 hours and a proper rebuild with powertec parts is about $5k. I figured I'd try to skimp and get a $2k rebuild from a motorcycle shop in California, they used a cheap cam tensioner, it broke the chain. That engine wouldn't be fixed in time so I bought a new engine built for a 'busa drag race application and while still 1500cc, it had a shorter stroke crank with larger pistons; i.e. less rotational speed on the rod bearings but more mass to move which evidently was a really bad idea for this type of use because the engine threw a rod right through the side of the crank case after only 7 hours of use. So, my original engine is being rebuilt again with the Powertec parts and will be back in January. It should be reliable again after being rebuilt properly but I'm going to move on to the Juno.

The car you're talking about with the V8 is the Radical SR8 which is even more finicky than the 1500cc since you effectively have two highly stressed engines merged into one and much more to go wrong; it also has a 30 hour rebuild interval. A friend has one and will be at Sebring with me in January if anyone is going and wants to check all of these out; Winterfest normally attracts a few thousand people.

Yea I was reading up on Powertec's website the other day.

What does your car use for a differential? I know Quiafe has few different versions of a Chain driven diff. but they are expensive and i think I read that they also need rebuilding every once in awhile.

I want to build a tube frame open wheel car similar to the atom(single seater) but with a 600cc bike engine. Only problem is the Diff will be more expensive than the rest of the project since it would cost $3500+

It has a Quiafe gear drive unit that connects directly to the output shaft of the engine/transmission since they're all in one. The Quiafe has been rock solid, never had an issue with it.

We were in SC over the weekend visiting some friends from FL during their vacation. One of their friends that we met works for Nissan in sales. He stated that they were receiving 3 of the GT-R's of which they would not mark up, that the delaership would not sell to anyone out of state, and that they would not accept bids on the car. First come first served.

Another friend of theirs stated that a Ford dealership in the area has a Mustang Shelby GT 500 and that the owner of the dealership is fine with it not being sold because by just having it on the showroom floor it has increased the dealerships car sales. People come to see it and stay to buy a car from that dealership which means they were most likely in the market to buy a new car. One day if the car sells that is fine (and he has had offers) but if it doesn't its paying its own way.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
