miata sr20
i don't really see any reason though to spend the kind of money for the swap when the miata has a good ammount of potential as it is, if i'm not mistaken it has the mazda bp engine which can make a decent ammount of power without spending the kind of money for a swap, but then again an sr20 miata would be fun to show off

Well i can do all the work myself so that saves a hell of alot of money, a decent ecu for the mazda is a min of £700, I paid half that for the sr20 complete with g/box ecu loom ect! The bp engine realistically is only good for around 250bhp, the sr20 is just getting started at 250.
I could only imagine a healthy SR in a Miata...that would be nasty

Well, there are multiple 300+ HP SR's around here, mine will be one of them once I get a tune, and there is even someone (posted once in this thread already) that has a 540+HP SR so you can call it whatever you want, but it is a great combo with a miata no matter how you look at it.
I dont have a problem with swapping engines in Miatas...302s okay, LSx, awesome, 1UZ, badass!, any I6, fucking awesome...just SR20s I cant stand.Well i can do all the work myself so that saves a hell of alot of money, a decent ecu for the mazda is a min of £700, I paid half that for the sr20 complete with g/box ecu loom ect! As far as the BP engine only being good for 250...thats also where its "getting started"...I've seen a 1.6 rebuilt with stock parts make 300HP at the wheels...the B6P (1.6) has oil squirters, non-interference, and other boost related things that make it cool; the 323 GTX had the same exact engine except pistons for CR. Granted a SR should make more power than the equivilent B6P, but it also has half a liter more displacement. I'd rather take the iron block non-interference design so I dont have to fret about which valves are open and how much when doing a timing belt.
I think its years cheaper just to get a $1000 GReddy turbo kit, turn up the boost a bit and tune it than it is to swap out the engine, wire the new ECU in, make the new engine fit the chassis as well as the rest of the drivetrain, etc. etc.
Fuck that. I'll take a 1G-GTE 2.0 I6TT drivetrain which is $2000, which includes the whole front clip, differential, tranny, driveshaft, etc. etc.

Do you know how rare 1g is, maybe there arn't over where you guys are. Im not saying its the best engine in the world but its just easy, theres so much support for tuning these things and there so easy to get hold of, if i blow it i can pick another 1 up for £350! Besides if i had the money and space to do it id go for a 1 or 2jz as a pose to a 1g! If bp's were that easy there would be hundreds running big power and there really isn't over here. I don't care what any1 says it will be cheaper and easier and more reliable for me 2go with an sr20 to get 300bhp.
JZ engines are plenty bigger and heavier, plus pricier. Fitment is even more an issue than it is with a 1G...we never got the 1G btw. And yeah BPs ARE that easy, its just more trendy to get an SR20 into a 240 than it is to get power out of a "gay car" like a Miata. I guarentee you that its cheaper and more reliable to use the Mazda engine than the SR. Period.
Also, dont forget 300 HP in a 2200 lbs chassis with a full tank and sometimes driver is a hell of a lot...its VERY different from a sturdy car like a Supra
As far as it having a chain, that doesnt mean it can come from the factory with a bad link and you wont know about it for a while. A few monthes ago I swapped 2 engines into a 745Li because the first one's timing chain broke, and it was a brand new engine from BMW. Engine had 150 miles before it broke
