Exclamation People from spark plug thread=Read

I just had a $10/hr parts swapper tell me I didnt know what I was talking about when it came to plugs.

In the previous thread, everyone gave an opinion on the plug they like. I want to know why-Tell me your research and results as to why you like those plugs-or admit that you pulled a name out your ass.

Not trying to be a dick, but I hate when people give people shitty info with no data to back it.

(and if anyone can tell me how a plug actually ignites the mixture-Ill send you a 20yr single malt)

as the ignition is triggered it sends the spark through the rotor, to the cap, down the wire and then it jumps the gap of the spark plug. a spark kernel is created that ignites the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Proper timing of this spark is not the only concern, you must have the proper heat range as well as the correct gap.

thats how i think one works.

It energizes the center electrode and causes a spark to arc to the ground electrode. What happens when a spark arcs? You get a nice little jolt of electricity that sparks some of the mixture. That mixture ignites more mixture, and so on and so on until its all ignited. Thats not rocket science.

yeah, thats what i was gonna say....
are we looking for a "better" answer than that?

in my experience of working on cars, including 7 years professionally as a shop owner and lead dyno tuner, NGK's always gave the most consistent results. This was true with every brand of motor and ignition system I worked with, from domestic to import, standard OEM set ups all the way to capacitive discharge coil on plug with multiple ignition amplifiers. Race cars generating upwards of 1000hp right on down to a 180k mile CRX HF pushing 53hp to the wheels.

I've also tried Autolite, Bosch, Denso, and motorcraft among many others, probably every brand you've heard of. I've never been in a single situation where a NGK plug was outperformed by another brand.

Sorry for the post length, but I felt I had to justify my position which is one of experience.

If thats so, then its some technicality that the statement stands just as well without, and hence its stupid.

The exact kind of response im looking for.

As for the ignition theory, you think those answers are worth $160 bottle of scotch? Yes im looking for HOW THE SPARK IGNITES THE FUEL-on a physical dynamics level

The kind of answer im looking for...Thanks

And you guys think those answers are worth a $160 bottle of scotch? The "answer" would be put forth in terms of physical dynamics, not static events.
