I also just started to read Drive to Win by Carroll Smith. This book is amazing!!! He really breaks down what it takes to get into racing in the first chapter and he makes it seem impossible. Reading this book is a great first step to really understanding if you have the determination to really get into road racing.

 

Driving fast is like sex. Everybody does it, and everybody thinks they are
good at it.........but some are a LOT better than others!

SCCA offers the most track time/instruction for dollar that I've seen lately.

The "Malibu Grand Prix" type leagues give you some experience
and a rep/resume. Ex: Andy Hardee, son.

Racing EVERY class in Go Karts at every opportunity will get you experience/rep, also. Ex: Danika Patrick.

Finding someone to put up the entry fees is a necessity.
EX: Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart.

Finding a sponsor/friend that likes racing and owns a company
will help.

I'm a better driver than most people I know of, since God gave
me that "feel" for a car on the very edge of control, but you
