The toyota drivetrain might be different, but the common knowledge in the subaru world is that its bad, clutch in or out. Pushing the clutch in just disconnects the engine and trans. It doesnt disable the center diff, so the front and rear wheels are still connected. You will heat up the fluid in the diff, and doing that often will blow it.
