Default so...when are we getting E85?

Are we getting E85 anytime soon?

I think this we be great for the economy, and help drive oil prices down as it is only 15% gasoline.., where ours right now is somwhere north of 90...

maybe then we would be be able to depend on only our oil sources instead of those greedy middle eastern OPEC pigs.

brazil has been doing since the 80's ...maybe its time for us.

you wouldnt need a flex fule vehicle either..im pretty sure you can retune most efi vehicles right now for it

E85 is stoich at 9:5 to 1 or somehwere around there( i dont know the excact fiqures)

and is 100 or more octane.

so all we would need is to icrease our fuel sytems capacity to give the correct flow rate and volume. (injectors, pump)

like maybe 35%

and increase timing, boost or compression (good thing) to utilize the advantages off 100 octane, which would increase efficiency as well.

best thing is, we have all these things readily available

like standalone systems (aem, chrome uberdata)

i have a big feeling that this will our next fuel source, and hordes of people will be in line to retrofit their cars.

yeah, they say e85 would be roughly the same prices we pay right now..but thats right now...how about 2 years from now when gasoline is 5 a gallon, or 6 a gallon.

e85 could not spike that high because it is renewable (sugar cane, corn?)

when we find better , more efficient ways to refine and produce ethanol( hopefully real soon) then we can expect e85 to drop even lower.

hell im pretty sure some crazy farm folk out there will find a way to distill it themselves and mix it in with a lil gasoline.

im all for it, as i hate those fucking opec, big oil companies more and more everyday.

what do you guys think?

I think life is more complex than most people realize, and
companies don't miss a chance to make money from consumer ignorance.

i request. these topics always interest me. I'm watching FOX13 news right now, and ironically they were talking about E85 stations in Florida... We don't have one, and they're going to tell us why, but I'm not sure I'll be awake for it.

to make our current cars to take e85 we need:

Bigger gas tank (to keep the same disctance per tank)
Stainless steel lines and injector rails (85 is very corrosive)

now to run efficient you need:
Tune for the E85
you FI guys will love this- up your boost, E85 is more like 115 Octane. Upping the boost will get you more power and be more efficient.

As the demand for E85 goes up, I wonder if the suppliers can keep up to maintain a close price to gasoline. Somehow I doubt the production is geared for a large scale increase. The biggest savings potential in fuel use is simple. People need to drive vehicles that get better gas mileage as their primary daily drivers. As long as gasoline is still affordable, not many folks are going to change.

I think regular cars can run on up to E35 without any mods... even that would help gas prices.

i want some examples...

And I don't think life is too complex I think we are too stubborn(sp?)....I know it will take time and money to invest in a new idea..you gotta do it, OIL wont be there forever, espically at the rate we consume it...Im sure the consumers, atleast some consumers, will buy the E85...look at hybrid cars..they have come a long way over a couple years...ANYWAYS...it doesn't really matter what I think, there isnt going to be a change untill we are on the brink of running out of OIL...DEPRESSION! (just a guess)

I hate OIL...and if we drill on the other side of the Gulf of mexico WE ARE FUCKIN IDIOTS.

1) E85 gives you a 20-25% drop in fuel economy when switching from gas.
Up your boost, or up your compresion. You will gain your fuel economy back.
2) The gov’t is subsidizing E85 otherwise it would be so expensive no one would buy it. E85 is expensive to produce. your a moron, E85 is made out of 15% Gas 85% Corn. If right now E85 was available you would be paying $1-$1.20 per gallon, and thats right now! once they have more farmers planting corn and more E85 refinaries, the price should drop.

How much farmland would have to be used to grow a fuel supply for just a small percentage of the cars in America? Is there a study that shows volume of land vs gallons of output out there?
