okay..one of my customers asked about my taillights..
and i pm'ed him this info..but i also think its a great DIY mod that most any of you could do. so i decided "why don't i share this with everyone else?"

my friend bought this JDM shit and smoked his maxima's taillights so it looks like the SE model..
it looks great but its $15 a can


so i am a cheap bastard and i want a similar look..
i go to this hobbyshop located on kirkman rd. & colonial
and i bought this stuff

its to tint the plastic "windows" on RC cars..but it works very well on taillights

i took out my taillights w/ a help of a razor blade to get through the goop
and i but the corner lights side by side and the center garnish separate w/ the 3rd brakelamp

make sure you clean the surface of the lamp w/ rubbing alcohol and have a well lit area

try and keep painting as even as possible..
i chose to make the center a lil darker than the sides
and the 3rd brakelight as dark as possible

let it dry..get a beer..and chill out
next..get some clearcoat..evenly coat the surface..
get another beer and chill out for awhile
install taillights...and have another beer

if you want to see what it looks like..ill post some later..
meanwhile i have opaque pictures in my TR garage
it is mostly transparent at daytime and looks normal at night..when i have the lights on

you all may say this is "illegal"..but so is aftermarket exhausts

yes, i know it looks very "domestic style" but i dont give a shit..

I bought that "JDM shit" in red to cover up the amber on the Talon tails. It's been over a year and has held up great.

 

haha i'm sorry i put it that way..but it is really expensive for such a small can
that japanese stuff comes out really smooth and even..
but so does the spray tint i bought, if you have good control over the can
how did you purchase yours? aftermarket supplier? online?

 

I had a friend that was selling off inventory from his old import shop on eBay. He had bought in bulk so it was a few bucks cheaper but not much. I would have been better off with two cans (the Talon's ass is HUGE) but I couldn't wait and had to put the tails back on. Is the can you bought a larger size?

 

That looks REALLY good. I would like to see pics of it with the brake lights on though. Just for safety reasons. I wouldn't mind doing this to my lights, but Ive already shaved off the third brake light on my car. I only have two left..so not having them bright enough could screw me over..

i can and a half did my front blinker & sidemarkers and the taillights
i didnt want to run the can all the way down..because it might spatter and leave bubbles
i cant get into my photobucket...i think i have some day and night shots i took a few month ago

yea it would look sucky on an eclipse but yours looks good though!
