Regarding the whole revving, clutch kicking deal. I swear you can NOT break a damn D16Y8 engine in the honda civic. Had mine for 3 years and literally bounced that turd off the rev limiter 24/7 (Afterall its the only way to get it to go)

I also own a 1974 custom/10 pickup and love to drive it simply because hords of people (older men) come up to you in a parking lot with compliments etc. It was my first vehicle when I was 16 and will be around forever. NEVER anything broke on this truck and its 30+yrs old. I used to be a die hard chevy fan, as well as my father, but recently they are putting SHIT on the lots. He's actually convinced himself to get my mother a Nissan Titan when her current GMC Sierra nears 50k miles.
you make a good point, d series honda engines are pretty tough in most cases.

as far as trucks go , chevys r by far the worst ive ever seen in my life.my unlce drives a 2002 silverado and with in 2 months, 2 fuel pumps and 2 fuel modulators>all installed by a chevy dealer, everytime it broke it was same thing ..me im a Toyota freak or atleast my family is, im on my second supra , now ith a pure JDM ,never really heard of motor.11psi daily driven, not a problem .sister drives a 94 Celica, only real problem is the brakes but she cant drive so there that , and my mom owns a 03 Camry ,probally hands down the most comfortable car ive driven , do 100 feels like 70. had 2 nissans didnt really have any problem s but just not that exciting to me, i had 180k on the clock of my latest s13 and not one drop of oil , no burning oil, coolant or anything ,m all original 5-speed with A/c...imo most of your expensive motor and tranny parts last longer with the imports

very good point, having had all 3 motors mentioned, nothing takes to sheer full throttle abuse like the 4ag. its like toyota designed it to be that way. oww wait they did. that being the spec motor for Froumla atlantic for 20 years or so(1.6L 240hp 11,500 rpm's on a FACTORY toyota crank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). i see alot of good responses,. i've had both american and japanese cars and i just feel that the build quality is alot poorer int he american cars, not saying they all suck, but for the most part you get alot better and solid feel from a japanese car ( one that was actually built in japan). the bran new 60k caddy's still feel like a cavalier. the new mustangs seating postion may be better than the fox, but it still sucks. a big part of that is the fact that japanese car manufactures use better quality materials when they build their cars, which has a huge roll in how the car will age and fell when it gets older.

It also seems to me that the Japanese take more time in design. While american cas are more focused on a market where the only thought is "What can me make/change that will sell the most". The Japanese market also thinks this but take alot more time and effort on thinking things out while the American market is more worried about how fast can we replace this car with a better car and get more sales and most of the time they fail.

Besides being horribly under powered, and expensive to modify (compared to the older Windsor based motors) It is a damn reliable motor. Specific years tend to have certain weaknesses. These weaknesses are well know and expected. There are only a few things that tend to go wrong with them, most of these are easy and/or cheap fixes except the plastic coolant crossovers on the 96-~01 motors.

please expound on this?

I mean we all know that any boob can jump right into a NASCAR car and hang with the best right?
I mean what type of skill does it take to keep a car off of the wall or other cars that are inches from you while going 180+..

i'm curious to hear your response.

as for the import vs. domestic issue.. who cares? buy what you want why you want.
I love my Fords and Mustangs.
I also owned an 88 Prelude that was a blast to drive, but it broke just as much as the other cars i've owned.
I'm going with BBB on this one..

I see a lot of talk of Jap cars, what about Euros ? I've owned BMW, and VW and I have to say VS an American car I'd own another one again. I loved my BMW. I think alot more R&D goes into Japanese and Euro cars more so than American cars. I also think crash ratings are higher in Import cars as well. BMW, VOLVO, Saab. I think there are over all other things to compair here. Our Pee Pee sword fight seems to be just that of HP and interiors. On the flip side theres a few import cars I'd never own.

There are a few US cars I really think look nice on the outside, but (sorry to go back to it) the interiors are dog shit. Mustangs for instance. Jesus.. can Ford be a tad more creative with the interiors ? Cudos on the outside and redesign of the new stang but guys come on...

I'd like to hear what some Euro owners have to say on this subject.. In Europe US cars are pretty much laughed at.
