Default Are cops allowed to do this?

So I get pulled over because a tail light is out. I get a fix it ticket for 75 bucks (which is so gay because im supposed to notice it is out...that's what he said.) So after he gets my license and all, he then asks if I have any weed or dope on me. I didn't, so I said no, then he asks if he can search my car. I let him, but I thought they needed a warrant to search your car? What exactly are cops allowed and not allowed to do?

You gave him permission to search the car. You could have told him no that he needs to get a warrent but from my understanding, they can't just search the car without any probable cause.

They must have a reason too. You can say no, but then they will make one up.

1 the tail light gave him that reason to pull you over..

Now when he asked you to search the car..
You could of said no.. if he really wanted to be an ass about it,he could of held you there and get a warrent etc etc.. But a judge just dont give out search warrents that easy.

Now if he say a bag of weed or a blunt laying in view,or anything illegal in view.. then he can then have "probibal cause" (sp) to search..

Now if he did search, without asking.. and found like a bag of weed,he can arrest you, book you.. but then a good lawyer or judge can see it was an illegal search and suizure, and just have the case thrown out.But a dam arrest will still show..

Yeah, i dont know why he would ask to search it, maybe he thought i smoked cause of my appearance, so i just let him search it because I didn't have anything in my car, but im wondering if in the future (if i have something) i would say no, but then they would probably end up finding a reason to search it...

You have the right to say no.They cannot violate your 4th amendment right.
Illegal search and seizure.

Article [IV.]
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized

If you do have something on you,You still have ther right to say no.If you dont have anything on you,you still have that right.I would use it to 100% if I know im in the right, and if the whole squad had to come and found out I had nothing.I dont care if i wasted thier time, they wasted mine.

Thats what aggreivance forms are also for.

"looks suspicios" is not in the law books.
One year I was in Daytona for bike week,I spent the whole weekend out there with friends.I came back to brandon to drop a friend off.I still had one friend in the car..

Well I got pulled over by 2 cops. They said my car was "suspected" in some robberies.i said thats funny,I been in Daytona all weekend. They asked me if they can search it,I said no.. they asked me if I let any one use my car,I dont let anyone use my cars.

They said, well your not the suspect.. the suspect is a black guy.. I said last time I checked,I wasnt black..

You are right. They can do what ever they want, but will it hold up in a court room, hell no..

You said yes he is allowed to do whatever he wants to with your car now. If you say no he has to get a drug dog there for probable cause or a warrant. If you say no and he gets a drug dog there and it goes crazy, your ass is grass. And as for the warrant thing if he pulled you over for a tail light out and thats it, he's not going to get a warrant for a search, trust that fact.
