haha. I guess a pro con list would be in order.

06 Civic Coupe;
Looks cool, tons of standard options, but it'll be around 17-18k for a .. civic.. COUPE. I'd like something wagonish for utilitarian reasons. - Very highly rated

Mazda 3i;
Decent looks, LOVE the interior, hardly any standard options (A/C is an option..shrug), will also be around 18k - Very highly rated

Scion xA/xB;
Can look cool, I utterly hate the interiors of both. Would prefer something with more hatch room or seats that fold down completely.

Chevy HHR;
Looks cool (to me), typical GM interior, almost every option standard, lowest gas mileage of the bunch (22-30), but the most utilitarian.. main vice - I've yet to read one completely positive review.

Seen a black HHR with some nice black wheels on it near me, thing is actually pretty clean for being a PT Cruiser ripoff

I wanted to get a Mazda 3s a while back but I've decided to wait for the pricing on the '06 Si. Personally I would test drive both cars to see which one you liked better. I've test drove a new Civic Coupe and a '04 3 and the 3 seemed to have a nicer ride, although the one I drove was almost fully loaded.

hahaha yeah I freaking hate the PT cruiser, but for some odd reason, the HHR (minus the headlights, they should be square like everything else) catches my eye.

4dr is the shit ,no leaning forward to let someone in. Also it's fun to walk away on 2dr cars

edit:go for the Mazda, bigger motor, more options, better priced, and just as reliable, and IMO better looking (especially with rims). Plus, if you decide to turbo the car, the 2.3 will be much better than the 1.6.

Although I find the styling of the tC bland, it is nonetheless a great car for the money.
