I'm an import person, but i must say that subarus have a good middle ground in the imports vs. domestics dealy. Torquey, sweet sounding, badass off the line, handle great, relatively high revving, and still 4 cylinders.

As far as domestics, i like the low rumbling, the speed factor off the line usually, mod-ability...and you don't have to deal with kids saying JDM this and JDM that

As far as most imports....the overall build quality is usually a bit higher (i'm not talking economy cars here...*honda*), gas mileage is usually alot better, long term breakdowns are usually not as common than on some older domestics...and there are usually less mullet comments...

I'm an import guy at heart. There's something about being able to make power with these pathetic little four cylinder engines that appeals to me. I love the traction of AWD- it sometimes scares me how easily the wheels spin when I drive FWD and RWD cars, because traction loss is an uncommon thing in my awd car. I particularly like the 4g63- the stock longblock is good for well over 500hp to the wheels, can support revs of 8500 rpm, and has the head flow to support these numbers easily in stock form. Move into basic upgrades and it becomes better- cheap off-the-shelf eagle rods and wiseco or ross pistons and the bottom end is good for more than 700hp. A quickie bowl cleanup is referred to as a "race ported head" because that's all you need for 10's and better. Off the shelf cams, crower springs and retainers, and a sheetmetal intake manifold and you've got a setup capable of making power up to 9500rpm with a bigass turbo.

But all of that is very expensive and no 500+hp four cylinder is truly reliable. Power production with domestics is almost painfully easy compared to 4 cylinder imports. 03 Cobras can reach over 500 wheel hp with bolt ons, 500hp DSMs are not uncommon but are far from an everyday thing and very expensive in comparison. LS1 cars can reach power levels NA with a cam swap and boltons that still amaze me, and the LS2 is looking to be an even better performer. A 500whp car can be a daily driver, and for a reasonable amount of cash. For ultimate performance without ultimate headaches and money invested- the V8 domestics take the cake. In the future I intend to go domestic to build a potent straightline car at a much lower cost than possible with any import, because they're just better at it.

Things I like about domestics: TORQUE. Low end torque from a v-8 is very nice to have driving around town. They make power quite easily. This power is often decently reliable.

I've had both and the imports I've had were a lot of fun to just jump in and drive. Light cars, easy to manuever, for the most part great gas mileage. I've been amazed by the power that some imports have made, a few on this board, but more on the professional level. I always enjoy seeing 60-1ek's purple hatch make a pass, it's a clean pass, not popping and sputtering down the track, not taking out the 1/8th mile marker and it's a street car. If he was on here everyday telling everyone how much better his car is than theirs, I wouldn't feel that way. There is a lesson here, it is possible for everyone to co-exist, just do your thing and STFU about it

import guy checking in, i like domestics like some v8 becuase really just stock there quick and with a car like mine you have to do dome stuff $$$ to make it quicker, id rather have the challenge to make my 4cl faster than most 8cl. I still give lots of props to people with domestics.

now THAT's funny.

i guess i'm an import guy, never owned a domestic, though that's not because i don't want to. the whole bang for your buck thing is hard to ignore... coming from driving slow ass hondas the fact that 11's are basic bolt-on's and a nitrous kit away still blows my mind. eventually i want to get myself a fox body to fuck around with, though i've noticed it's hard to find coupes that are relatively close to stock, and not beat to shit in my budget.
