like i said...i am getting more stupid as i read
If the torque is the same at 10 and 20k and you're in the same gear. The torque being put to the ground will be the same if you stay in that same gear. Now, if you're at 10k you can drop a gear and get more torque multiplication and accelerate faster.

here is one good write up on this. DO a search on Torque and horsepower.
http://vettenet.org/torquehp.html

And once again...I can show you proof...or you can see the proof if you look at a dyno run on RunViewer. Its all right there.

[hijack]The new cossie 2.4L V-8's are reportedly spinning at 20K, those poor connecting rods. Take that FIA! [/hijack]

no I want you to clairfy this for me. I want to know how torque is the only thing that accelerates the car. Read your internet source once again very carefully...it agrees with me. Horsepower is how much work the torque is actually doing...

in other words the horespower makes your torque usable. The horespower curve is how well the torque is being used. Trucks have alot of torque but not alot of horsepower...they are great for moving heavy shit but they wont win any lemans series

Well..it doesnt agree with you. Here is an excerpt from the write up.

First of all, from a driver's perspective, torque, to use the vernacular, RULES . Any given car, in any given gear, will accelerate at a rate that *exactly* matches its torque curve (allowing for increased air and rolling resistance as speeds climb). Another way of saying this is that a car will accelerate hardest at its torque peak in any given gear, and will not accelerate as hard below that peak, or above it. Torque is the only thing that a driver feels, and horsepower is just sort of an esoteric measurement in that context.

Think of it this way. When was the last time you applied HP to something.....you never have. At not time have you directly applied and measure HP on something. You can only directly measure TQ. Now...when was the last time you used a Tq wrench. I use them all the time. This is the actual twisting force applied. That is what moves the car.

Just keep pondering the FACT that in a given gear...peak acceleration occurs at peak TQ. Dont skip over that so quickly...that little fact will tell you all you need to know. If it so happens that TQ is very high in the upper rpms...that means HP will be a huge #. Think about it....look at some dyno graphs of similair engines that you are familair with. Look at ones that make more TQ in the higher RPMs (= more HP). Look at ones that are just peaky with HP...with no power under the curve and TQ drops like a rock after peak HP. Then...as you start to think about them...pay close attention to that Tq line and where it goes. And how the car MAY accelerate using thet Tq curve in a given gear.

Just dont get so damn defensive.
