I'd have to agree w/ Frank on this one. I'm not a big fan of computers and all the programming. Not saying it doesn't work for some, but I don't want it. I have my MSD 6AL too and thats fine for me and what I'm doing w/ the car for now. I like my carburetor. And as far as the sizes of bolts that was mentioned before, my craftsman tool set I carry behind the back seat could just about disasassemble the whole car . Gotta love that!
As far as the new cars , even GM doesn't make them like they used to. I prefer the old ones.

Look around supraforums for gas mileage threads, 30mpg isn't exactly easy but possible. 6th gear on the highway cruising 75-80mph with A/F ratios leaned out a bit. I'm not nutswinging on Toyota I want to get out of mine. I have nothing against carbs either, dollar for dollar it is probably much cheaper to build a nice carb setup.

Anyways with American manufacturers I have to give my nod to Ford.

So it'd have to be rated at 700 HP to get that mileage? One of the cool things about computers is that you could magically "detune" stuff..for instance, A/F ratios. IIRC you might have to shut down the car, but you wouldnt have to mess with anything after you install it and wont really half to work it anymore.

I can completely understand where you are coming from...after the 80s where most everything computer was KISS, suddenly there was all this new technology, meaning more weight and far less of a chance to easily swap in/out a better engine. I really like direct injection, but there are so many more variables with it over other modern engines that its true potential may take a few years to bloom.

Dammit...I wrote this novel about how awesome Holden and FPV were...whatever

Multi-displacement engines, direct injection, variable nozzle turbos, eletrically assisted turbos...blah blah blah its all very cool, interesting, and can help power AND mileage

Sounds like witchcraft and voodoo. If I have some kind of mental disorder and decide to shut down some of my cylinders, I'll just go ahead and yank a wire or two off of the distributor.

Or just disconnect the battery. It will run like shit till the computer re-learns the car again .

I used to do that every day....after a while your ECU figures out you are doing it and starts up normally
