Worst thing to ever happen to the automotive world?
So what do YOU think is the worst thing to happen? On one end, we have the ever-so-popular Gay and the Bicurious movie series (supposed to be a 3rd with Vin Diesel in Japan....wow...
) which features completely false details and incredibly retarded attempts...for one, theres the main character's daily driver (a red Ford Lightning) which is faster than his riced out green Eclipse "weekend driver"...theres the repetition of refering N2O as "NOS", spoilers left and right, etc. etc. you saw the movies you know what I'm talking about.
But then theres the 70s-80s era of emissions and the strict safety regulations...thanks to California (IMO), we now have the beauty that was the 305 TBI. We also will never see more than a handful of such cars as the SkyLine, Lotus Elise/Exige S1, Toyota Volta, and a gallore of random cars that see Japan years earlier than we do (for instance, Toyota has had a direct injection 2.5, 3.5, and 3.0 V6s along with dual VVT-i (intake AND exhaust cams) for a decent amount of time now, and only recently do we see it in the new Avalon (thank God, its RWD now and doesnt look as bad), also a 6 speed auto that our cars could benefit from.
On the flip side, the f&f movies DID bring a small percentage of people into true motorsports...people who go "I want that car! Thats cool!" and come online to research it and find not to rice it out.
The flip side to the strict gay US laws are safer cars and engines like the EJ25 instead of STi's regular 2.0

I voted for pesky safety standards and emissions testing
If I hear my friend bitch about how he's pissed that the USDM m3 is detuned compared to the euro spec ones one more time I'm going to lose it.
I'm also upset that I can't have a skyline for less than 3 million dollars. These cars should of been on the US market since day one.

You can't honestly be comparing emissions standards to F&F
Cars are making plenty of power now and are safer. Yes, it set U.S. automakers back, but they have bounced back just fine with safer, cleaner, and more powerful cars. As far as U.S. standards keeping japanese "supercars" away, that is total BS, they can make them legal if they choose, I would say economics has a lot more to do with those cars not being here than the EPA. Fast & Furious was funny to me at the time it was released because I honestly thought nobody could be stupid enough to go for that shit and try to live like that. Boy, was I wrong. Fast & Furious has done more to destroy racing scenes and cast anyone with a fast street car in a bad light than anything I can remember. Yes, there are people out there stupid enough to try to live that way, a lot of them in fact, just look at you for instance.............................

safety is a good thing, if we didn't up the safety standards automotive
accident fatality rate would multiply
plus do want to worry about having a 80% chance of death if someone jumps
into traffic and you can't slow down quick enough?
fast and the bicurious hasn't brought anything good except a good laugh
every once in a while.
I think one of the worst things to happen in the introduction of Gran Turismo,
cause if it wasn't for that you wouldn't hear all the ricers pissing and moaning
about the skyline not being available.

I just mentioned SkyLine because its cool...I could care less whether or not we got it, we have a own-all-dominating Inline 6 over here, its more than 'stout' and has that bit of extra displacement, and was even better over here than it was over there (ceramic turbos wO0t
)
