i have 2 questions actually. one is if you have a cold air intake in your car. is there a whistle or noise associated with it when you drive/accelerate in your car. is it noticeable?

the second one is not related to the first. in people's car that have turbos what is the sharp noise that occurs when they shift gears, is it a blow off valve? please explain.

thats the blow off valve, its releasing air when the throttle plate is closed to keep the back pressure from pushing back on the turbo, reducing the turbo lag in btween shifts and helps keep from damaging the turbo

 

Yes, CAI's will make a whistle when on the throttle. My roomate's CAI'd GSR makes all sorts of noise out of his CAI when he accelerates.

My SRI did whistle, I hated it! And yes that noise is a blow off valve, some louder than others, but all serve the same ultimate purpose!

the CAI on my wrx has a whistling sound, which adds to the spooling whine of the turbo. i know the intake does jack shit, but i love the sound so much i can't bring myself to remove it.
