What happened to Idle Wild

I remember at one of Bradenton's street car shoot-outs, Dan was there with Shane Wood, one of his customers. Dan protested Mike Freedman from Lethal Injection. Mike was actually racing in the non-power adder class that weekend, but he still had a bottle in his trunk. As it turned out, Mike and Shane wound up getting paired up in the second round. In the staging lanes, Dan asked Mike to remove the bottle. Mike told him that it was empty and there was no reason to remove it. He even went so far as to show Dan that the bottle gauge was on zero. Dan then asked him to disconnect the line. After a bunch of arguing, a track official asked that the line be removed to end all speculation. When the line was cracked, some gas was released. I'm not sure exactly what it was, since I wasn't standing close enough, but something was in the bottle. Mike ended up winning that round against Shane. If my memory serves me, it wasn't even a close race. I also believe Mike went on to win the event.
Not sure if this is the same race you are referring to.
Again, I'm not defending Dan. I would be hard pressed to do that.

I was waiting to see who chimed in about Idle Wilds rep. since I need to be somewhat bias being a admin and all.

I think the final straw for him was stuffing his car in the wall at Orlando the day before Grbeck got killed. At least I think this is the same guy, correct me if I am wrong.

same guy, he tore it up pretty bad..
conditions sucked all the way around out there, wind was moving my pile around and I was only going 135mph on the top end..

I'll put up my anemic 4.6 up against any n/a stock longblocked 302.
Yes the 2v's were turds from 96-98's. My friends 98 2v was putting up consistant mid 14's. I highly doubt any import was putting up those #'s around the same time. If they did, I'll guess they were high end imports. Launch, we gotta line up one day. My turd is a pretty good runner.
About Dan. I didn't want to say anything but I heard his demize(sp?) was his work. Some shops were correcting his F'ups. This was long after Joe stopped working there. Did any ever see his "custom" X-pipe? lol. -Mark

Just so that you understand what we are talking about, a lot of the tracks around here used to have EFI type shootouts, Lakeland had a lot of them, Desoto had a few. Basically the people that showed up were street racers. Street racers cheat, plain and simple, when you have the same group of guys at a shootout that were out at Gandy the night before, rules are going to be broken
We are not talking about organized classes of racing, we're talking about people driving their car to the track, putting a number on the window, and racing. The same people that will tell you straight faced that their car is on the motor, only has exhaust, and they need a couple of cars and a move if they are going to race you for $100
If it will help you sleep any better, this was the only event that I was involved in blatant cheating and we went out in the second round, despite having nitrous on the car.
