Now, if you're running 6-second quarters or hitting 180 on the back stretch at Sebring...

I have Simpson five points.
your crazy man added protection is never overkill.

I won't argue that.

But I don't subscribe to the "no expense too great for safety" attitude. Eventually the "safety extremist" will require all drivers to be wrapped in a vel-cro cocoon and the only thing you'll be able to move is your pinky finger.

Helmet - good for all cars.
Seat belts - good for all cars, safety harness even better.
Roll bar or cage - depending on ET or type of racing - good.
Hans - Good for F1, CART, Indy, NASCAR, John Force, but unnecessary for a street car.

Jeeze Whaz, your bashing me for my Hans comment? Some of these folks actually think a 5-point isn't as good as a standard seat belt.

BTW Whaz, do you have a Hans?

I thought you were asking what a Hans was. I didn't mean to sound condescending when I was explaining what it was.

I have g-force 5 point 3" and a bolt in roll bar - I have the latch kind...

Now five point - vs 6 point - with five point typically you'll have to drill a hole in the floor. Six point you can usually attach each leg side to the seat rails.

No Hans Device - and i'm only up to 140 before turn 17

In a roll I highly doubt anyone would be able to think quick enough to lean or bend, not to mention having the muscles to do so against such rarely experienced gforces.

I'd take a 5-point over a 3-point any day.

An honest man. Don't you know you're supposed to exagerate about things like that? You're doing 170, I know you are.

I was looking at the gforce belts...3" 5point, camlock...Also instead of getting a cage I have thought of just welding in a couple bars., one that would be up around the roof and then one going from behind the seats...Also what owuld the difference be if i did have a cage...i still wouldnt be able to move, thats what the harness is made to do, keep you in your place.?

i think the harnesses would be for competition use, more so than every day. and probably just to stay in the seat a little better.

and, if you manage to flip an s13 youre doing something really wrong, and probably deserve spinal cord injuries.

You don't see any race cars with airbags do you? That's because a harness makes airbags totally useless.

A Viper bud of mine was wearing his harness at a track when he went head first into a wall. The airbag deployed and he said the 5-point harness kept him from ever even touching it. That would not be the case with standard 3-points. He said he remembers it all in slow motion and actually saw the airbag deploy.

You wouldn't want to move. The cage would prevent you from being crushed. If you flipped and landed upside down with no cage, later goes you. If you had a regular seat belt on, you would have some chance to bend down, etc.
