an engine that has alot of potential is one that can make up to 800 HP w/o ever breaking the factory seal on the engine. bolt on a big turbo, IC system and fuel system and making 800 HP is potential. having to rebuild a motor from scratch w/ forged internals, metal Headgaskets, studs, ported this and balanced that... thats not potential. some of the baddest ass and most highly regarded Z's are probably making 700ish RWHP right? thats on a fully built motor and big ass turbos and probably nitrous too? and anyone who buys a skyline to make 500HP and rest on their laurels should be punched in the mouth, have their skyline sold and buy a DSM w/ a built motor and 60-1 T3/T4 turbo and maybe a 75hp wet fogger for good measure. as far as 3.0 liter 6 cylinders go, Toyota has them figured out the best. hell, as far as ANY INLINE SIX CYLINDERS GO... toyota has everyone beat.
i also recall Mark Tozer from Suprastore.com flying his personal MKIV over to japan to race the fastest Skyline on the island and beat that skyline coming and going! if thats not a testamet to Toyota's inline-six technology and american know-how, i dont know what is.
like we said; the 300z TT was Designed, engineered, produced and marketed to have 300+ HP, look nice and not break. in fact, the hood should have been welded shut at the factory so people who Sadomasochist's dont attempt to work on/modify the Z32.
If the VG30/VQ35 was rated the best V6 by JD Power and assoc... then thats fine and dandy...but we ALL know that they dont rate motors on their HP potential, tuneability, and repairability. its all about "Intial quality". but quality levels 5 or 10 years down the road? forgeddaboutit.
what is the 6 cylinder w/ the highest build quality, most R&D and most potential?
(PS: the answer isnt anything from Nissan

I know the VG and the VQ are to different motors but most of the design was carried over to the newer of the two the VQ.
I still would have to dissagree about your outlook on both the Z
and the skyline in terms engine reliability and tunability.
YOU do know the Skyline competed with likes of the Supra on the japan racing circuits and did so well in fact that they outlawed them and since made there own racing series featuring these wonderful automobiles! THE SKYLINE? So what in the hell does that tell you?
YOU do know they raced the shit out of the Z in japan as well and to great success might I add behind the driving of Steve Millen and Jim Wolf. Remember those red white and blue 300Zs?
Those are the bloodlines in which these cars were born and you are telling me they aint shit? ARE YOU MAD???!!!!
You call the skyline a tank yet you fail to realize that its performance on a track is on par with the Porsche and that is in factory trim. Maybe you should do a little further research on these vehicles and Im sure you will find why I cant agree with you on this.
Dont get me wrong the Supra is a hell of a car and I love them very much but give the Z some credit! Jeesh!!!! And everybody KNOWS the Skyline is legendary and for good reason.Just look at its racing heratige for gods sake!

please. like the 2JZ has never been blown.
1500HP on a stock block/internals is nothing to dismiss. How would you like someone sitting here nitpicking every less then perfect aspect of the 2JZ? the fact that the engines in question are so similar should tell you something right there. Everyone is so quick to jump on Nissans ass, well -when your #1, everyone's got something to say I guess. Whats toyota done lately thats so special? the fuckin camry? LMAO!!!!! I'll take a G35 thanks. lets not even TALK about slipping quality control and reviews on some of the newer toyotas. hmmm... resting on our laurel's are we?
every single car manuf in JGTCC admitted they couldn't beat the R series skyline. Even with them continuously adding weight and restrictor plates, the car continued to win to the point where the other manufacturers gave up. Toyota was smart using a lightweight 4cyl for weight savings in the Supra, and its worked well for them, no questioning that. see, I don't go around bashing great engineering like some ppl.

it is only a start , inline engines bigger than a inline 4 will be getting rare in the comming cars from japan they are making all the car companys run v platforms due to them handing a accident alot better .
It still is a start for toyota , 400hp is nothing to be upset about plus the beauty of awd "well electric motors on the fromt wheels" no axels to break or anything it is a very nice set up and the carbon fiber chassie means toyota is going to do somthing amazing with the new supra...

Okay, stop calling it a Supra, its NOT a Supra, far from it. Supra name has always had a Inline 6 that performed a bit better than their nice RWD Celica coutnerparts, however it is clearly void of a Inline motor and performs much better than the POS Celica FWD that we now have. This also has a MR type layout for the gas engine, and that is also something the Supra did not have. All gen Supras also based their looks on the previous, with a very slight objection to the Mk3 -> Mk4 (if you look, they still have some similarites)
Toyota + fast does NOT have to = Supra. The Supra is dead, and I hope it doesnt come back. You cant get any higher than perfection (aka Mk4) so dont ruin it like they have the MR-2 and Celica names.
However, I am eagerly awaiting this new addition to Toyota's lineup as not only is it fast, but its quite good looking and very appealing. However, my only concern is that people may overlook it and forget it as they had with the Mk4, which lead to the downfall of it.
