SRT-4 vs. WRX
I was recently looking to buy a car and have to make a choice between the wrx and the srt4. i test drove the srt and there wasnt anything i didnt like about it besides the interior. but i also noticed that my friends dont seem to like the car because "its a neon". then i looked at the wrx. very nice looks inside and out but there are a few things i dont like about it. (1) the price compared to the srt (2) the performance compared to the srt and (3) i was kind of let down when the salesmen started the car. there was no tone at all. so if anyone has any opinions or advice post it.
also the warranty. dodge- mopar parts do not void the warranty but the subaru warranty is voided for aftermarket parts.

The WRX is just a nicer car. Paint is a little thin. They beefed up the glass tranny (at least the synchros) a little after '02. I've developed an interior buzz/rattle or two over my 40k miles, but it holds up very well.
As for tone and performance, I attribute that to the 3 catalytic converters and the 205 all season rubber. Those are also the first things that WRX owners get rid of. For warranty work, I got a new clutch due to a TSB issued by subaru for the 02's. The dealer never even asked about the uppipe, IC hoses, and STi short shifter.
SRT-4 has awesome straight line performance, but its Dodge's cheapest car on steriods.
The Impreza is a nicer car to start with, but lacks the ultimate stock performance of other budget racers.

It all depends on what you want from the car. I've driven the SRT-4 and for the money it was a damn nice car, the WRX is a damn nice car for about 4k more. Shit, it's your money buy what you want and what will make you happy.
