Just say no. All of those ground effects and sporty wheels don't make it a good handling responsive car. My money would go towards a TSX, Mazda 6 or even a new Mazda 3 5 door hatchback before I even considered that slushbucket Camry. The inlaws have a grey Camry just like that minus the ground effects and wheels. While it is a nice car, you'd be begging for the power of a base model Taurus and crisp handling of your Expidition within a few months.

JMHO of course. Drive a few cars and then come back to me.

PS. An Altima v6 is thrifty and hauls ass too.

I would go for an Altima or a Maxima, only why I say that. I have owned just about every model Toyota, and now I don't even want to deal with them anymore. When i bought the corolla S, in 03, I had so many recalls on that car, then 6 months later got a Matrix, just the same. My parents had a 01 Tundra, and the Shifter fell off on my dad 3 times, so now he has the 4 door (don't know why he didnt learn his lesson) but now my family doesn't want to deal with anymore Toyota's. BUT I wouldnt mind if i had an MR2 =D

Based on this:

Its mostly for your wife
You need something economic
Family car
Good resale value
Dependability

Then I would say go for it. I had my Toyota 8 years with no major problems until I totaled it last year. If money wasn't an issue, however, I would recommend the Acura TLS.

Ugh... you seem to be leaning toward the Camry. Well, at least you won't be the one driving it.

+1 for Mazda6, but if fuel economy and reliability are your 2 main goals go with the Camry
