A bigger motor doesn't have to work as hard. Driving habits attribute much to your milage. Like I said, if you coast around like granny, you'll get good milage in a heavy 4 banger car. But you won't. There will be big rigs to pull out infront of, short merge lanes to accelerate on, slow grandmas driving Camrys to pass.
Stuff like that...I believe you'll see your milage decrease in a car that is as big as the Camry. Of course I'm speculating.

My brother owns a slightly mod'd '02 Altima 3.5 SE with a 5 speed. He drives it fairly hard, he tells me it averages around 22-23 Mpg. Not too bad. Sure he looses a few gallons to the 4 cyl version...but he says its worth it.

But...Charles if you went for the Camry...more power to you. They are nice cars no doubt.

I want an Evo 8, but this isn't for "me". It's for the wife. I don't need a car...I have a company van that I am blessed to get to drive daily.....at least I don't have to pay for it.

Bah, I'm not a fan of the newer Camry. If you didn't need a four-door I'd say you should go with the Accord V6 Coupe, preferably six-speed. The 7th gen four-door Accord is fugly, so that's out. Maybe a certified pre-owned 6th gen Accord? Lose some of that new-car depreciation drop, and Accords have always been just slightly less mind-numbingly boring than Camrys. Actually, my top pick would be a fifth generation (94-97) Accord Wagon, from my personal experience with both the fifth gen is a lot more fun to drive, the sixth gen is bigger, heavier, softer suspension tuning, more towards the boring side of things. No matter what you do, Camry, Sixth gen, make sure not to get the base four cylinder- get the V6. Even the 150 hp 2.3 SOHC VTEC in the sixth gen cars is slow and weak with an auto trans, my dad's Accord has the base 135 hp non-VTEC with auto trans and it's painfully slow, torture to drive.

Now, since you already have the company car daily driver, get the stripped-down RS version- it's cheaper, they probably won't be selling like hotcakes with no A/C in Florida making it cheaper still, and less weight+ front limited slip= more better. Evo 8's are pretty hot, just avoid most of the Evo boards- I don't want to get into details, but essentially the boards and most of the people on them are teh suck.

Only making around 1400 2004 Evo8's, of these, about 300-350 will be RS.

Only real difference between 2003 and 2004 is the leather option (and of course the RS).

let me put this in better terms.

I'm trying to CUT MY BUDGET.

I have a house payment of $1200/mo
I have a Truck payment of $675/mo
I have Daycare payments of $640/mo
I have insurance payments of $200/mo

Not including utilities, etc.

<------wants to save money.

Not to discourage u from getting the camry, but u should test drive a scion XB. It has great feul economy and it is suprisingly huge on the inside and plenty of standard features. True, the styling is on a love it or hate it basis, but if u like it and if $15,000 is reasonable to u, u should check it out.
