The ZR-1 Motor you were refering to was made by murcury(sp?) and not Chevy. Its a powerfull motor, but ask a couple of ZR-1 guys on here (Limey etc) about how much repairs and mods cost.

ford probably has the most affordable and efficiant (sp?) dohc V8 on the market right now, in the cobra powerplant

Roller rockers and lifters rule. Not only is there the simplicity of 2V pushrod motors but they lose less power to the valvetrain than an equivalent chain or belt driven 4V DOHC system would.

the lt5 is the 4 cam 32v that u were just taling about, right?
umm i prefer 405 hp 385 torque more than 330hp 340 torque.
am i comparing the right engines?

al the info is from http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/index.html that debian dog posted
No, you got it right.. ZR-1s made 405hp. They were also rediculously fast. That story, I believe, was possibly a detuned ZR-1 or something to that effect. To me, you'll feel an honest 75hp to the wheels, and be more impressed with it. If they were testing a sohc and dohc at the same power level, then I'd agree the sohc would feel more powerful. But detuning a DOHC motor to "compete" with a less powerful (probably due to design) SOHC defeats the purpose anyway. Then again, I may be way off.
/sigh. I loved the ZR-1. My first car was a '96 Vette, riding ZR-1 rubbers.. 285 front/ 315 rear mmm. Too bad the LT5 ran so hot.. and too bad GM used Mobil 1 as a factory fill.
