need help picking out a tranny ...
alright guys, I need a little help with a tranny ... I've got a 350 with about 450 or so hp in my 69 camaro right now and was planing on replacing the it with a 454 as soon as i was done building it but i'm starting to realize that the car is gonna be sitting in the garage for quite some time being that the prices for big block performance parts are pretty expensive ... but anyway I was hoping that I could get some suggestions from you guys on what you think would be a reliable tranny that could withstand a 550+ hp beating all day long. Any help would be great.

What do you think about the 700r?
i would go with a good powerglide.they can take some abuse i run a th350 right know but it can only take around 900h.p so when i get my new motor i will keep as a short term spare.

700R4/4L60(e) wont hold the power, i dont care what anyone tells you...ive asked around many shops, even the good reputable builders dont want to warranty over 450 to the wheels or so.
200R4 would be the better bet, the GN/TTA guys are doing 9's with them all day, but they are very built, the th350 and 400 are my choice trannies, id go with the 400 cause it can be made a bit beefier, but you lose a little more power through the drive train.
last resort, 4L80E...but that seems liek a tough one to fab.

true that those are all good trannys but how about a manual? oh and about building up the 350 ... with it being 550+ hp is with me using a shot of nitrous but with the big block I was aiming for around the 600-700 mark but i figured i'd hold off for a while and use the 350.
