Can anyone explain what exactly powershifting does to hurt the car...? Holding the gas to the floor while shifting..and who all here does it while racing? Is this going to ruin a transmission? I've done it about 15-20 times.

That's only partialy true regarding over time damage. The whole thing could easily go on the first time this is done but as the synros wear down over time you are certainly increasing the chances of a big boom and crunch.

I have been visiting the Nissan forums once in a while recently and from what I have gathered about the transmission in the 350Z I would consider taking it easy unless of course you are willing to pay to play.

I've seen 50 mile Evo 8's with HOLES in the goddamn transmission. Fuck, can't even break it in before they start doing those launches.

It's when you don't remove your foot from the throttle when accelerating.

 

Just ask my boss...he's on his third tranny, and even his new one is a racing trans and its starting to fuck up. 97 cobra.

 

It sounds like your boss should switch to an automatic.
