im buying a new car it is a...
What's up people...
I'm another elantra owner I've got almost 60K on mine and it runs hard as hell. There's no way after owning my elantra for the last 3 years that I would buy a base lancer, echo, corolla, civic, cavalier or any of the cars in the elantras price range. 140hp to the wheels from the mods republik is stating is attainable in this car just check elantraxd.com . You can talk shit about Hyundai for all the crap they put out in the 80's because it was crap. But what is being put out today is quality stuff. I'd be kicking myself in the ass if I would have bought a 115hp (flywheel) civic for 17k instead of buying my 140hp (flywheel) elantra for 14k that to this day the only problem I had was a broken power window switch (which was gladly fixed under the standard 5yr bumper to bumper warranty) These cars are definitely not pieces of shit that will break down after 30k miles (again i have almost 60k). Also remember that the elantra is lighter than most of the other cars out there. My car weighs close to 2700lbs, if you're looking for a good hp to weight ration this is a good choice. Another thing I love is pulling over and people asking me what kind of car it is... no one is gonna ask you a thing about a civic or lancer because everyone knows what they look like (there's a ton all over the place). If you guys need anymore confirmation on the quality of the car feel free to visit www.elantraxd.com we've got a lot of friendly people out there that would be happy to answer any questions for you.

Thanks GLS for your Conformation on the Quality of The Elantra. i so far have 22,000km and i use only Synthectic Oil and i have no problem starting at -47C (keep in mind my car was not Plugged in) most cars will not even Crank at that temp. my brothers 1999 VW Jetta wolfsburge Edition did not start that morning untill I jump started him. Currently the outside temp is -27C with a windChill factor of -38C I started once again with out a problem.. Also my windows are not Fogged up at all. where as there are many cars driving around (new and old) which can barely see either they dont know how to use the Defrost or their car just doesnt warm up enough in this Cold Tempiture (Calgary Alberta Canada) these are just a few things of which Prove the Quality of this Hyundai Product
Like GLS said if you need Further Proof Ask multiple People on www.elantraxd.com or test drive one your self... Tho when Test driving keep in mind in Compleat stock form they'er a Dimond in the Ruff with a few little alterations you can unleash alot of performance. First mod that should be done on all the base model Elantra's and make a bit of a diffrence on the GT model is the Tiburon V6 19.2mm Rear sway bar + Bushings and Endlinks. this bar Bushings and endlinks makes night and day difference in the Cornering abbility of this car. and the cost for this night and day diffrence is about 70$usd or in Canada with out a Discount directly from the Dealer at Retail price is 165$ for more Performance add the V6 Struts with a set of Eibach lowering springs which will get you started with ease on an auto X circut and will not cause you to go in to a higher category b/c of the OEM Struts and sway bar.
anyways hope that's lots of info anyone who might be curious about the New Generation of Hyundai

I'm actually from Southern Cal. And you wouldn't believe the handling on my car. I've got some 18x7's, Intrax springs, upgraded sway bar, strut bar (tib struts coming soon). I've left a few mustangs along with others(stock) slamming on their brakes around the curvies here it's the funniest shit. I pass em on a straight right before the curves come up and they come rushing up next to me, then we hit the curves and poof the other car is gone and all I do is laugh because I know they can't believe a Hyundai just did that to them, of course on a straight away all I'll see is tail lights from a stang. But it's nice to know that once I have my turbo installed I'll have an awesome sleeper in my hands. The aftermarket is slowly starting to catch up with this car too... If you live in southern cal you're in even more luck because the companies that make the stuff for our cars are here and they need test cars all the time sometimes you get the tested goods for free other times you pay a very low price. I'm getting an exhaust soon for free from a company all that's required is that I do pre and post install dyno runs to prove the horsepower gains. b4 you buy a lancer, civic, corolla, or any of the other more popular cars test drive an elantra, the 04 comes with a 2.0 vvt engine.
okay, one of the most enticing aspects of a new hyundai is its warranty. (10 yr./100,000 mi. including all kinds of roadside assistance stuff.) to put it bluntly, you just can't beat it. for skeptics (as to the quality/reliability of the cars), that alone should be enough to convince you that the cars are at least worth taking a look at. that says that the company is willing to stand behind their product - i mean, if the cars were complete pos's, hyundai would bankrupt itself with that kinda warranty, am i right? also if you do have a problem, you know you're covered, no worries there. that is, if you're planning on keeping it for a long period of time (since as some people have noted, the retail value is pathetic). with responsible maintenence and all - they're probably not what you'd want for modding - elantras are (or at least should be, in my opinion) competitive to equivalent cars. they're a significant amt. less expensive than civics, corollas, etc... and you get a lot more car for your money than an echo. hyundai is a brand new korean car company, so of course it doesn't have the same reputation as toyota and honda do... but they are trying to make a name for themselves. i have no complaints so far.

Maybe you should consider the Chevrolet Aveo. Brandnew, imported Suzuki sold as a Chevrolet, seems very simiar to a Echo and is priced around 9K, most likely way better than the Hyundai or Kia.

Not sure if they make the Chevy Spectrum is made anymore, or when they stopped, but those were nothing but rebadged Toyota Corrolas. You might want to look into that as well.

I also wanted to let everyone know that the Pony's and Excels of the 80's might have been made "assembled" by Hyundai but the Engines and trasmisisons were either 100% Mitsubishi or 50-50% mitsu/ford Depending on the year and model... sooo you guys should be Bashing Mitsu Not Hyundai maybe hyundai made a mistake for hireing mitsu for production of their engines but not entirely their fault for the Oil Burning... also if anyone has a Dodge Colt, Mitsu marige of the mid to late 80's they'll notice they'er probbly burning oil too
If you guys read about how the engines and trannys have done since lets say 1996 and present you'll notice very Few major problems a few of the tibbys had header cracking on the 1.8L Tubular Exhaust manifolds which as a matter of fact add 7whp on the 2.0 Beta II engines you have to admit not many cars come with Tubular headers STOCK !! it was 4-2-1 design also came on the 1.8L Elantra Also ...
anyways about the Tranny on the New 6Spd Tibby which was designed partly by BMW and if you get a chance to take one out for a test drive it's sooooo Ssmmooooth mmmmmm
Oh BTW my freind and i bought our cars at the same time i bought my Elantra GT and she bought an Alero by GM she's taken her car in for Warrenty 6 times in the past 10 months ive taken my car in ummm 4 times only for Oil changes which i get them to put in Moble 1 (new car oil) heck the engine even comes with Platnum Plugs
