Turbo 2.3 project???
Ah, I see you have a more specific goal than I realized.
I just thought you were looking for a 2500 LBS car with about 350 HP and torque that handles great.
Now I know you just want to build a ford go-cart for the SCCA.
I still think it would be a lot cheaper and easier to achieve something at nationals with a hot BS car than a with an old ford in SM.
To answer your boost question I think you would certainly need to be in the 20-25 PSI range.
Force Fed may have a more exact number.

thoughts....
a) Tony doesn't have a clue about serious National level autocross competition (no offense, but you do lack the expirience), and does have a slight "Porsche is perfect from the factory attitude". However, he is correct in that chassis selection is very important. Tony, you'd be AMAZED at what you can do with a mustang chassis to make it handle. Danny has "just springs and shocks on his 944....how fast is he?". David Schneor (sp?) had a pretty well built ASP 944T...it wouldn't even TOUCH a real ASP car. Unfortunately, you really don't see any FAST ASP or even SS cars in Florida (unless Danny drives Joan's Z06) ...or the Southeast really.
b) Leonard....turbo cars = BAD for autocross. You think you need to drive ahead now?? Wait till you have to apply throttle 1/2 second earlier to make sure its on power when you want it. And keep in mind that realistic goals like X rwhp in a turbo applicatoin mean a TON more torque. A Z06 can put down 405 crank hp, and its really up there in terms of about as much as you can put down on DOT tires.
c) I dont think youre getting a foxbody anywhere close to 2500 lbs....what do they START at? 3100 id guess? Last time I check, Mustangs didnt have heavy heated seats and other heavy bullshit items you can pull, aka BMW (save over 100 lbs with seats usually)
d) Just for thought.....i can get a Mazda 323 GTX with just as much power of that 2.3L, get it to the 2600 lb AWD limit, and have AWD. Think your foxbody is going to beat it?

You miss the point Tony. I want a mustang!!!!!!!! My first car was a 93 4cyl.... I miss that car. (even though i beat the shit out of it). I like SM as a class. It's a truly unique class because it attempts to allow imports and domestics to compete on an even playing field. The rules struggle at that from time to time, but it's still a wonderful class. Can you name another class where I can run against anything from a civic to a supra to a vw scirocco to a mighty quick datsun 510 ? Rotaries, turbo's, and v8's up to 6.0L?

Leonard, while a Mustang may not be the most perfect autocrosser, the aftermarket support allows you to build whatever you want. CHEAPLY! What kind of motor rules are there in this class? That guy had a point about driving a turbo car, it could get interesting. An aluminum headed 302 would probably be the same weight as a T2.3 with stock pieces.

Mustang all the way !
The other cars mentioned are like bellybuttons, everyone has one in.
The Fox platform has invinite possibilities and as Dave said a following / aftermarket that is bigger than all of the others cars mentioned in this thread put together.

Displacement Limits:
Forced Induction: 3.0L (OHC), 4.0L (pushrod)
Normally Aspriated: 6.0L
Rotary(all): 1.5L
Then there are weight limits... assume 2500lbs.
Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the origional standard or optional engine for that model.
I.E. Any block that wears a ford logo in my case (there's special cases for joint ventures -- like talon's which can use mitsu or chrysler engines because they were offered with both).
Is an aluminum 302 actually that light?
Any idea what a supercharged 3.8 weighs?

The SC3.8 wouldn't be much lighter than either a 302 or T2.3, but there's no weight savings available and they aren't known for high HP.
I'm thinking S Trim SHO motor though
There's a guy in Orlando that has an SHO motor he'll sell pretty cheap.
