Hurst, you're wrong and that is all there is to it. You are not an upholsterer, nor have you ever been. So you have no idea what it takes to upholster a seat. 3 hours? It takes more than that to do ONE seat in quality fashion; trust me, I'm not speaking out of my ass.

Your Fury seats do look good. But take into consideration: 1.) He used material he had in his shop (already paid for by another job, thus all material costs are profit from there on out), 2.) They are FLAT bench seats - these are NOT the same as a Fox Body set of bucket seats. A monkey can do a set of flat bench seats in all black and sew the lines nice, tight, and straight, and make money at $350 for the set. Adding in the door panels on that car is just as easy (again, flat, simple).

Look at your Fox Body seats. Lumbar supports on each side; pull out leg support in the center of the bottom of the seats, seperate head rests, sew lines through the centers of the seats (top & bottom), smooth outer bolsters, all of which is trimmed in piping. There is over $350 in material (decent/good material) in a set of Fox Body seats to be done. It takes a well-versed crafstman at least 3 hours PER SEAT to complete one, and that'd be pushing it.

It's okay to be a jew, and it's also okay to search for a deal - and get them on occassion! But what I speak is factual, so take it or leave it is fine by me.

This is a set we did - FOUR YEARS AFTER having installed them, and they still look great:

These were probably close to a $1,000 job - which we did not charge that much to the person because they are a very close member of our friends/family and also a contributing member to this site.

If you want something inexpensive, this is an example of a job that only takes a few hours to complete and is far less expensive:

I dont want to argue with you Josh. Your right I dont do upholstery,.. but I've been into cars for the better part of 25 years now and I have seen first hand what it takes to do various seats. Yes the split bench on the Fury was an easy job. But I have had 3rd gen Camaro interiors done and Camaro seats are contoured similar to fox body seats and I have had 86 GT seats done which were 3 tone, gray and black with a thin red trim. I had the entire interior on my 70 GTO redone, headliner, carpet, rear deck lid, had a custom Pontiac emblem embosed into the door panels and the dash pad was redone. Entire interior cost me only $1200. No I'm not an expert on how its done Josh,.. but I'm not paying someone's house mortgage just to get 2 seats done. So how exactly am I wrong? Because you dont agree with what I think is a fair price for upholstery work? Lets just agree to disagree.

As for the time into the seats,.. yes 3 - 4 hours is an appropriate time frame for labor to do Fox seats. Thats how long it took my 86 Fox seats to get done and about the same for various Camaro seats I had done. Maybe custom work takes longer,.. no clue. But I'm not having custom work done. I dont need custom materials. Any decent shop will have the material on hand to do what I need done. I'm sorry that you dont feel $300 is enough to get 2 seats recovered. Maybe thats why the business tanked? Sorry,.. I know thats a low blow. And I dont mean anything personal by it. But you have to look at it from my perspective also. Why would I pay more to get my seats recovered than what I can find excellent replacement seats for? That and I do have a guy that does excellent work and I know what he charges me through past work I have had done. He's been in the business for almost 20 yrs and is still going strong today even in this crappy economy. So that should account for something.

These are the seats I'm having redone. Mine look exactly like these (Except I have a worn spot on the drivers seat). My passenger seat is in great shape,.. but I want it to match the driver seat after its done so I want the passenger seat redone also. Look at them,.. its not a complicated job. This is how I want my seats to come out.

im not being an ass here, but this looks like a $100 job

If we did anything like that we would be redoing it again. We wouldn't even let it go out looking like that. We do boats, and not cars though.

these are the seats we did for my Crown Vic. the passenger side is a little uneven, not sure why. but this was a quick job to replace the nasty covers that were on them

We get people that freak about our prices "oh ive got a guy that will do it for $300" and either it looks like shit, or it falls apart in six months and then they pay us to do it right.

Thats exactly the way the factory covering was. I was 100% satisfied with that seats. I had it done 4 years ago.
I still wont pay more than $300 for 2 Mustang seats. You guys can charge more and I'm certain people will pay more. I'm not one of them.
